Crate Training Question
Hi Jared, We just brought home an 8 week old GSP yesterday, and we're planning to crate train her. Wondering if you have any guidance on roughly how often is typical to have her in the crate during the day. 10/2 EDIT: I’ve watched all of the crate training videos, and we’ve been working on utilizing the crate the past three days. My wife and I both work from home and have meetings/calls sprinkled throughout the day. So it’s likely that our pup will need to spend a decent amount of time in her crate during our work hours. We’re intentionally crating her in a quite room away from our offices so that she gets used to being by herself and isn’t dependent on having us nearby. I’m guessing we just do our best to socialize and get some play time in when we have breaks during the day? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks man! Appreciate the input. We’re starting to get into a routine that seems to be working, and I’ve read to expect quite a bit of whining up front. While it’s not fun to listen to, I know it’s the best thing for her in the long run. She’s been making it about 90 min in the crate before whining, so I’m ok with that for now, and hoping it’ll increase with age. So far no accidents in the crate, which has been nice. We’re adjusting our work schedules so she’s not in there for more than 2 hours straight (unless she’s not whining - which so far hasn’t happened beyond 90 min). 3 hrs straight would be awesome, so we’ll hold out hope that we get there sooner than later.
