🧠 Why Do You Keep Starting Over on Monday?
“I’ll start again Monday.” Sound familiar? You eat something you didn’t plan on Friday night, and suddenly the entire weekend becomes a free-for-all. “I already messed up, so I might as well enjoy the weekend and start fresh Monday.” But here’s the problem: The food usually isn’t what derails you. The thinking that follows it does. This is called all-or-nothing thinking—viewing your choices as either a complete success or a complete failure. 🥗 Ate perfectly all day? Success. 🍕 Had pizza for dinner? Failed. 🏋️ Completed the entire workout? Success. ⏰ Only had 15 minutes? Why bother? Your brain starts treating one decision as evidence that the entire plan has failed. And that creates a dangerous behavior loop: Slip → Guilt → “I blew it” → More unwanted behavior → Start over Monday 🔄 What if we changed the loop? Instead of asking: “How do I avoid ever messing up?” Ask: “How quickly can I return to the behavior I want?” Had dessert? Your next meal can still support your goals. Missed your workout? Take a 15-minute walk. Stayed up too late? Go back to your normal routine tonight. One decision doesn't require a restart. 🧠 Consistency ≠ Perfection This is one of the biggest misconceptions about behavior change. Consistency doesn't mean performing the desired behavior perfectly every day. Consistency is your ability to return to the behavior after life interrupts it. The goal isn't: Never get off track.
