What artists do these songs sound like?
Hey all! Finishing up a five song playlist that I will be sending out this week. Feedback is completely welcome, however, the thing I could really use your help with is figuring out what artists each of these sounds like! I'm finishing the metadata tonight and tomorrow so whatever artists you feel would fit well under the "Sounds Like..." would be very helpful! Thank you!! https://s.disco.ac/wxafcjguqvkz
💯Aim for 80%, not 100%
There's a library composer who's been placed 40,000 times. Do the math and it works out to one cue a day, every day, for 15 years. What I see is consistent output aimed at about 80% instead of chasing perfect. Most people can't even tell the difference between someone's 80% and their 95%. If you're stuck polishing one track for a week, you're optimizing for the wrong thing. What's your "aim for 80%" number: how many tracks could you actually finish this month if you stopped chasing perfect?

I swear I could at least double the number of tracks I finish if I keep reminding myself to shoot for 80% instead of chasing perfect 😅 Like @Joshua Goodlow said too, sometimes what you feel is 80% is someone else's 100! I know I've seen that time and time again, the songs I'm not confident in are someone else's favorite.
✅ What are you finishing this week? What have you finished?
Between briefs due, vocals getting recut, and backlogs finally getting cleared out, this weekend is about closing loops, not opening new ones. Whatever's sitting at 80-90% done on your hard drive right now, that's the one. Comment with the one thing you're finishing (not starting) this weekend. I'll check back in on this thread on Monday to see who actually did it.

Time to recut vocals for three songs 🙈 But I'm going to start with one and make it a goal to record tonight and then have them mostly edited to send over to a collaborator by Monday morning!

Sad I had to miss this but would love to hear about how it went from anyone that attended!

@Tom Steele thank you!! Going to watch later! and @David Goode that's amazing! We really are our own worst critics sometimes.
⏱️ Do you set your own deadline... or does the deadline set you?
This week I watched an Accelerator member give themselves a full week to write a song instead of one day. They got less done. Rabbit-holed on synth sounds for hours because they had "time." More time doesn't mean more finished. Often, the constraint is the very thing that actually gets you unstuck, not the thing holding you back. What's your natural deadline? Is it a day, a week, a month... and be honest, does giving yourself more time actually help you finish? Or does it just give the second-guessing more room to move in?

It's me! 🤣 But for real, I think with the way I work, I have to have those tight constraints, otherwise I will indeed spend hours looking through those sounds simply because I have the time. At least to lay down the foundation of a song. Then for me, the little things fall into place a lot faster once the foundation is laid down.

@Glenn Macrae Before joining the accelerator, I definitely had that problem! Haha. I was working alone in my studio so I'd think "Who's going to know if I don't make this deadline?" But I feel like since joining, I see other people making moves too and we all hold each other accountable, so it's easier to feel like I'm doing something real, so therefore the deadlines are "real"
