Hey Jeremy! I’d love to hear how you approach dancing to a song you’ve never heard before. Do you enjoy it, and how do you find ways to play with the music? When I don’t know a song, I often feel like I’m just repeating familiar figures rather than really connecting with what I hear. I find it harder to enjoy the dance because I don’t know what’s coming. Do you listen for clues to predict accents etc? Or do you focus on reacting to whatever is happening in the moment? I’d really appreciate hearing what goes through your mind and how you’ve learned to feel comfortable with unfamiliar music:) P.S. I’d love to hear from anyone else too!
Hi Jeremy! I've been sick this week and watching many, many videos to pass the time 😅 which has been amazing! There's so much great info on here. I have a question about Kornel & Catharine's basic step lesson. They mention it's their interpretation of the bachata basic & everything, but I'm curious about where their methodology sort of falls on the basic spectrum? I've been trying to learn more about different styles of basic, i.e., sensual vs traditional vs moderna & am just wondering what theirs is most similar to. Also trying to develop the style of mine & wondering what elements I want to incorporate. There's a lot of info out there so it's been a bit tricky to figure out!
For Kornel and Catherine their basic step is from traditional bachata / Dominican bachata :) Even within Dominican Republic there are a few ways to explain to basic but they way they teach and me and Adriana teach it is almost the same :)
Hey man! Good job, keep it up, sorry the late reply, was recovering from Geneva! So some feedback Try to control your arms sometimes you’re lifting it too high and the elbows are going up to much, keep your shoulders down unless you’re using it for styling, and also for traditional you need to take much smaller steps :)
Hey everyone, I put together a list of songs that I think would be great to study for Geneva or future competitions 🤍🤍🤍 Geneva - classics https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6RkOkPVSYpyT8sIbVMrq7b?si=E1pttusoSuGFb2rQbXd6HA&utm_source=copy-link&pi=8cEjFxaJRl6HN Geneva - new wave / new hits https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6h7h2sofaErNJhOCPMW40g?si=sfaJAr9BShSGvtWgYeB_1A&utm_source=copy-link&pi=bYL2Zf9mQw6BV Geneva - traditional https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5q5LnCUWRTCvFeCUpayIkN?si=OnBVwOO4QFKrWfqLdHdQ4w&utm_source=copy-link&pi=yW71VZvaQ-qqg
Hi Jeremy, I noticed that when you do the linear 'derecho' basic, you don't send your hip to the right and send your chest to the left when you step on 1 like they do in Esencia which is what i was taught. Is it considered incorrect to do this basic, or is it better to learn the traditional Dominican basic instead?
Heyyy! I think it comes down to personal preference, my teacher Carolina Rosa told us not to focus on the upper body, but for example Kornel and Catharine in their version are also teaching it with upper body as well I think but more in a diagonal if i remember correctly
