Who taught you to pray?
Not who taught you about God. Who taught you to pray. A grandmother. A youth pastor. Someone at a kitchen table saying the words out loud until you could say them yourself. Say their name below. I want to thank God for them by name this week — and if they're still around, tell them.

I'm not sure who taught me to pray. I do remember saying grace and bedtime prayers when I was young. I'll bet my mom (Geneva) taught me those prayers. The instruction I remember from my father was at the dinner table: "You're old enough now not to say memorized prayers. Pray your own prayer." I had no idea what to do. I thought that adults, and not kids, prayed prayers that weren't memorized. I was afraid to pray for so many years because I thought my prayers wouldn't be "good enough." I still feel uncomfortable to pray in front of others. I know that's not what my dad intended, but it was the lesson I learned. Thank goodness I feel comfortable talking to God one-on-one. When I was in my 30's, my church went through a study on how to pray which helped me in my personal prayer life, but I still prefer not to pray aloud in front of others.
Prayer Request Monday — you can set it down here 🙏
New week. Whatever you're carrying into it, you don't have to carry it quietly. 🙏 Name it below — as much or as little as you want to say. 🤍 And while you're here, scroll down and pray over two other people's. Every single one gets prayed over. That's the promise and it hasn't broken yet 👇

@Laura Denton, prayers for your son to find his way to getting back on his feet, and that he feels the love of God and of his parents in the process.
What are you carrying into this week? 🙏
Last Monday of the month. Same door, always open. 🙏 What are you carrying into this week? 🤍 And pray over two others while you're down there. If you named something here at the start of September and it moved — come back and tell us. Those are the ones people remember 👇

@Erica Stevenson, praying that God's love and forgiveness washes over your uncle so strongly, that your uncle's eyes are opened to salvation.
Breaking the silence
Sometimes we as Children of God have to break the ice. We have to be in uncomfortable situations to be able to express the importance of Christ. People stay silent way too much now adays worried about what may happen if they speak truth. We are suppose to stand tall in our faith and know that the Lord is there with us to help us deliver. Breaking the silence brings more people to the light. Yes it can be scary and uncomfortable for some. Yet the everlasting love and peace and kindness you receive in return is worth then more than we can imagine. Breaking the Silence isn’t just about you it’s about the people surrounding you. The people that you are shedding light on. Making them see the courage and truth through you. How is one suppose to see without seeing of your not willing to show it in even the darkest hardest times. Speak up at moments that you know the Lord needs to brought up. Speak up when people are speaking down about Christ. Break the silence in church, break the silence amongst friends and family. This fight isn’t just His alone, we are here to help spread his love and we all have a mission.

@Jillian Davis, it's not always easy, but it is much easier. I've always been rather quiet in general; and as I get older, I get quieter. I guess I need to work on talking more. I do love listening, though.

@Jillian Davis, it's easier for me if someone asks me a question since I have something specific to respond to.
Evensong
I attend a more formal church. One of our young couples and our music director have planned an Evensong for us this evening. It will be a more contemporary service. I'm excited to see what they've planned for us and maybe sing some of the songs I used to sing at my former church. We'll see.

@Jillian Davis, we had a prayer service, a short sermon, and several songs. We sang Ten Thousand Reasons, one short hymn, Psalm 145 to a hymn tune, How Deep the Father's Love for Us, and In Christ Alone. It was a lovely service. Then afterwards almost all of us went out to eat at a local restaurant. As you can probably tell, I attend a small church. We probably had about 25 people go eat. It was a wonderful evening of worship and fellowship.

@Dorothy Valentin, we had a marvelous time. The last time my church had an Evensong service was just about the time the pandemic hit back in 2020. So this was an absolute blessing.
