I missed yesterday, as I had appointments that ran later than usual. BUT it was a fabulous day—here in Alberta, Canada, we have a lot of rocks flying, so we are always getting chips filled, but there are times you don't have time to catch it before it turns into a crack across your windshield, because this vast land is full of sand and dust; windshields also look like they have been sandblasted over time. We had both replaced on our vehicles yesterday. Why do I tell you this? This is also a beautiful metaphor for life; we get cracked, broken, and blasted! BUT we get to choose how it impacts us every second, minute, and hour of every day. For days, weeks, and years on end. WE CHOOSE and can see clearly again. Through healing, techniques, skills, learning we get to see clearly again...and again, and again, and again. That is what makes this life so beautiful. Circumstances come and go; experiences are in a moment. Some things get lost forever, while others are lost for a time. Deaths and diagnoses are most like the biggest and most permanent and often impact the most. Yet again, how we think, feel, and act around that situation is not. This changes the impact of that permanency. You and I still get to see clearly even after such events; some even bring the clarity. Some of you heard my story to varying degrees and details; it's been a lot of permanencies in death. 2 brothers, my mother, my in-laws, grandparents, friends, and close aunts and uncles. This is going to be a fact and part of all our lives; life is a cycle of born, live, and die. Unfortunately, I experienced a lot at a young age, and I didn't have these tools. My mom passed when I was 23, and that left us with half our immediate family gone. I used to say I lost 8 years of my life when she passed, in drama, turmoil, and grief. I now know that is not true! It was for many years, but I do not know. That was a cycle of life I lived. My beliefs kept me trapped in victimhood; my stories I told myself were vast and emotionally impacting. All the things that were happening outside of me, impacting how I felt, feeding the stories and beliefs, making it worse, thus impacting my actions...and for years, I felt I had no control over any of it. If someone acted mean, I fought back, meaner, stronger, and oftentimes more hurtful than what I was being hurt. I felt I had no control, and I had to.
