Increasing Customer LTV (Life Time Value)
In business, there's a term LTV which is talked about a lot... Increasing customer lifetime value is a win-win situation. You provide more value to the customers (students and parents) you already serve, and you increase business revenue... Without spending any more on marketing. As a dance teacher or studio owner, you're not just in the business of teaching dance—you’re also running a business that thrives on student engagement and retention. Increasing the Lifetime Value (LTV) of your students is one of the smartest ways to grow your revenue while strengthening your school’s community. Even small changes, like encouraging your "one class a week" students to take just one more class, can make a huge difference. Let’s explore how upselling and a few creative strategies can help you boost your students’ LTV and create a more profitable, impactful dance school. The Power of Upselling: Doubling Revenue with One Extra Class Let’s start with a simple example. Imagine your AVERAGE student currently pays £33 a month for one class a week. If you upsell them to take just one more class a week, that’s an additional £33 a month. - Before Upsell: £33/month = £396/year - After Upsell: £66/month = £792/year That’s double the revenue from just one student! Imagine if just 10 students took up this offer. You’d increase your revenue by almost £4,000 a year with minimal effort. Upselling isn’t just about boosting revenue, it’s about offering students more opportunities to grow and enjoy their dance journey, so you should never feel guilty or greedy because of this. *Ways to increase student LTV* Beyond upselling additional classes, here are some other ways to boost your students’ value to your business while enhancing their overall experience: 1️⃣ Merchandise Sales Branded dancewear, water bottles, or accessories are a win-win. Students love representing their school, and you create an additional revenue stream. Even small items like stickers or notebooks can add up over time.

Yes - it gets as much attention as our marketing. And our targets are built in to growth goals. 👌
Studio cleaning/organisation planner
So I'm trying to get myself organised. Starting with jobs that overwhelm me with running a studio by myself. I have such a big space, which is a great big old building that seems to just collect dust and look messy fairly easily if i dont keep on top of it. So I've created a planner to try and organise set jobs for set days to make it easier to keep on top of it rather than me being overwhelmed each week not knowing where to start. I'll post the link below. Feel free to make a copy yourself to edit your own version. Alternatively it has some blank templates attached which you can print out to write your own down. https://www.canva.com/design/DAGgNYvmv4k/67m7SxE2Qy9Xo4l2TStC_w/edit?utm_content=DAGgNYvmv4k&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link2&utm_source=sharebutton

Love this 😍 We have our shop girls on a rota to stay on top of things daily, our cleaner does the majority but we even have them cleaning the dots as they get so dirty from little tap shoes. Your planner is gorgeous 🫶

@Vicki Bentham omg yes - 🙌 Our cleaner is like part of our dance family - she is an absolute legend and I’d be lost without her. Maybe do a quick calculation on how much time it would take you to do it all vs a cleaners costs. Then balance out with how many new kids to cover it = more time for you to get all the other stuff done. Go for it! 💪💪
Free Trial vs Paid Trials
Just because I’m interested to know and I’m weighing up the pro’s & cons! Do you offer a free trial, reduced rate trial or a fully paid trial before a child subscribes to your membership? We offer free trial but Michelle and I are arguing with ourselves as to if we should charge even a small fee to add value to the trial? Any opinions or advise is valued 🥰

We do 2 week paid trial - they can come to as many classes as they like for their age in those 2 weeks. We found that the number of trails are lower when paid but our conversation rate higher. I also calculated the amount of work involved in our onboarding process and it is a lot so financial income to pay for this admin time is offset.
Team Meeting Structure for you
Here's a possible Team Meeting Structure I've adapted for you I have a monthly meeting with my team, and it has improved productivity/effectiveness of the business TENFOLD, and my team are much HAPPIER, knowing what's going on and how they can positively affect the outcome. Remember: You must include your TEAM (there's no i in Team) - so always ask questions. So they feel included and valued. If they give a suggestion, make sure you action it, or explain why it might not be a good idea right now. (You don't have to do all sections below - take what works for you) Dance School Monthly Staff Meeting Structure: 1. Student Numbers Graph - Visual representation of class attendance - Breakdown by class styles/age groups - Retention rates visualisation 2. Challenges This Month - Identify biggest operational hurdles - Student/parent complaints or concerns - Facility or scheduling issues 3. Solutions & Prevention Strategies - Action plan for identified challenges - New procedures or systems to implement - Staff training needs 4. Celebrations & Wins - Outstanding class performance - Student achievements/progression - Successful events or workshops - Positive parent feedback 5. Principal's Update - Overall school direction - Upcoming events/performances - Industry updates/opportunities 6. Teaching Quality Focus - Class observation feedback - Teaching standards review - Music/choreography concerns 7. Individual Meeting Scheduling - Set dates for one-on-one teacher reviews if needed - Choreography planning sessions - Specific concern discussions 8. Monthly Focus Area - Key teaching technique - Student engagement initiative - Administrative improvement I like to reward 'good behaviour' so I actually add £5 to a team pot for actions we decide together that will benefit the business...We use it for team outings, fun lunches etc. Incentive Ideas: - £5 reward for each verified Google/Facebook review they encourage for team pot. - Bonus for 100% teacher attendance - Reward for maintaining high student retention rates

OMG - THANK YOU - this is amazing, can't wait to start with them now, really appreciate the time taken to map this out!
Adult Classes
Does anyone else teach adults as well as children? If not i would highly recommed starting them as its a great extra income! I have over 70 adult dancers. Some of them have come from children that started with us first but then on the flip side they started first and then they brought their child to us so it was a win win! Just thought i would share and say if you have the space on your time table start it!

That’s amazing 🤩 What I find hard is some teachers don’t enjoy teaching adults as they feel a different pressure unlike with kids they feel they have more authority! I think though more experienced teachers who are confident aren’t phased! So amazing for your school x
