1year later.. ish..
Still at it, and still grinding. Glad I found your channel.. definitely opened my eyes to sound production. I wish I would’ve known this sht sooner (like 15ish years ago when I began this journey slapping garbage together 😬) . Anyway, this is my latest track I’ve been working on. Finished up the mixing/ mastering last night, so I’m probably still early blind. Let me know what y’all think!

Transient Issues
How do you make your kicks punchy? Just the punch. Not bassy or boomy. I wanna boost the "click". Any tips or tricks ?

I’ve been messing with a dynamic EQ on stuff you want to duck the kick. I mostly do R&B, hip hop, etc.. so I’m usually EQ’ing the 808 to the kick. Also am messing with a slight duck on the Vocal bus track (vocal bus slightly/ quickly dips when the kick hits.. it’s side chained to the kick for context).
Attempt 3
Thanks for taking the time to check this out. I know you had to grind like hell to make it in the music industry, and I’ve got huge respect for anyone who actually builds a living off it. I’ve been applying some of the feedback you gave me before.. just got out of the shed testing new FX chains on my vocals. Would love to hear your thoughts on how it’s sounding now.
Attempt 2 - Vocals & Guitar
Been tweaking the compression, EQ, and a touch of chorus (with subtle harmonies) to get a fuller vocal sound. Did I accomplish it? I’ve listened to this track so many times I think I’m “ear blind” now 🤣

@Nicky Brenner thanks! I actually hadn’t thought about EQ’ing the reverb 😅. Do you have a go-to approach like low/high cuts, or is it mostly about tweaking by ear? Great catch on the breaths too, that’s something I didn’t even consider. Really appreciate you taking the time to point these out.
Vocal Editing Tip!
Do Not over value the visual representation of the pitch- trust your ears first.

I used to rely too much on the visual pitch.. this totally reframes it for me. Appreciate the insight!
