@Mgt Mall Welcome. It's so sweet that you want to work on your voice to sing to your grandchildren and help foster their interest in music. It's never too late to start.

@Tori Kamal Definitely. I learned a lot from all of those twists and turns and I'm a better musician now because of it all.
What is Your Musical Wisdom
This ideas was kind of borrowed from a martial artist who I watch on YouTube called Instructor Bensei. He often does shorts where he gives his wisdom, short bits of advice that he feels will help others. And whenever he's at events or working on projects with friends, he'll ask them for their wisdom. I'd like to get the wisdom of those of in the community. And I'm not looking for anything particularly in depth about a specific instrument or musical concept. Just a simple perspective on/approach to music in general that you think might be unique and could help others. My wisdom is to learn about instruments that you don't play. And I'm not suggesting that you buy and learn to play them (though that is very fun) or that you take proper lessons (unless you want to). Just that you watch videos about how they work and how they're played on YouTube, IG, TikTok, etc. or read up about them online. Learning about how various instruments operate and how those who specialize in those instruments think about and even physically play them will inevitably and, in my experience, positively affect how you approach your main instrument(s). I've learned a lot about rhythm from watching videos about drums and other percussion instruments, piano videos have changed how I think about harmony, videos about horns and woodwinds have taught me a lot about melody, and learning about synths has altered how I think about sound in general. And it all feeds back into how I think about and interact with the little box with 4 stings and a neck that I use to make my music. So ... what is your wisdom?

@Magdalena Waśkowska This is a bit over my head, but it sounds fascinating and I'm definitely going to be doing some research about it. There are definitely certain genres that have always resonated more with me, blues being at the top of the list, and I've very curious how that might correlate with other traits that I have.

@Magdalena Waśkowska I loved it. Then, I checked out the other song on that channel and I loved it too. So, I looked Dżem up on YouTube Music and I'll absolutely be listening to more of their catalog. Thank you for making me aware of them.
Test warm up live
I’ve popped the test warm up in the classroom for anyone that wants something to work through across the weekend ( @John Maloney ) We’ll do another live on Monday too. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Do you like birds?
Little do you know, Tom and I absolutely love birds! We've just got a bird table for our garden, and we have an app to help us learn birdsong. We love going on walks, listening to the different birds and trying to work out who's singing! So today's good news is that nightingales are making a comeback in the UK! Nightingales are famous for their beautiful, intricate songs, so this feels particularly fitting for the School of Roar. It's wonderful to hear that conservation efforts are helping these amazing little singers. Here's an article about it: https://www.rspb.org.uk/whats-happening/news/six-species-success-stories-to-make-you-smile Are any of you into birdwatching or listening to birdsong?

@Tom - Beth Roars Thanks for sharing those, Tom. I really like the transcription under the first video and there's a descending part that I'm hearing in both videos, most noticeably at the beginning of the second, that reminds me a lot of Hananera from Carmen.
Some very good non-musical news
Someone has to be the first person, other than Beth and Tom, to start a thread and I guess it's going to be me. I checked my bank this morning and saw that I had $90 that I didn't have a couple of days ago. Upon further inspection, I saw that it was from social security. I must have missed a letter or something. Social security disability insurance is my only source of income and it's not much, so the extra money is going to be very helpful. I already know that next month is going to be very tight, so I'm trying to be disciplined and not touch it. But, new percussion toys and inexpensive, plastic ukuleles are always calling to me, so we'll see ...
