Need help with Job Applications!
Hi everyone, I'm looking for some help with my networking skills. For a bit of background, I've been working as a Data Scientist / Full-Stack Developer for the past two years now, and I've decided I'd like to move to a bigger city with the intention of pursuing higher-caliber roles in the same field, and also expanding my social circle. For the past few weeks I've been sending tons of job applications out, however most of the listings I've come across have been from recruiters, and either I don't get or a response, or I get a phone-call with a recruiter trying to advertise a very low-quality role to me. I've read that around 80% of hires don't come from job applications, but rather from referrals, where people network using platforms such as LinkedIn, and suggest ways to companies that they can solve the problems that they are having. The problem is that I have no idea how to do this effectively, and most of the time end up sitting staring at my laptop screen in frustration. If anyone has any insights to share regarding LinkedIn networking or job hunting (preferably in the coding world), sharing your advice / experience would be greatly appreciated!

I have good news, and I have bad news
Ok first the good news: I'm working with a potential client (still in proposal phase) for a project that fits well within my wheelhouse: healthcare data. They want to incorporate an AI agent to analyze medical transcription notes and output a list of billable codes to create claims from. The bad news: I have literally no experience creating an AI agent lol. Help. Do I take the gig and figure it out? The AI portion I feel is a small part of the overall app but it's the core of what they want to accomplish. The rest, creating a claim, submitting it to a clearinghouse, the UI, etc. I can handle no problem. It's what I do on a daily basis. The AI agent however, I have no clue where to start with that. I was totally upfront with them about my experience with AI so I definitely will not take on a project I feel that I could not handle but this seems fairly straight forward. Also their budget is fairly small, likely 5-10k for a working prototype so there's that. But if I can nail this then I can add AI to my skillset. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

@Jason Rosensweig Perhaps whilst you're carrying out phase 1, you can allocate some time to taking a short course in how to develop AI agents. It's been a while since I've done anything around AI agents, but I do remember them being rather math heavy. Also I'm curious to know where you landed this gig - was it through a service such as Upwork or through word of mouth?

@Jason Rosensweig No but after a quick google search it looks like an obvious choice for the task you're looking at doing. Have you started experimenting with the dataset, or know of any examples of other projects based on BioBert? Thinking GitHub is probably your friend for this one! Also I've never really thought of using Grok before - I personally have the ChatGPT app on my phone / laptop and use different chats for different problems. (Also you can reply to this message using the reply button below instead of starting a new comment each time ;D )
Best place to get started?
Hi guys I understand python basics. However I need to learn Numpy, Pandas and Matplotlib. Where would be the places to start with these. Are there any tutorials that we get me up to speed in all of these say in a couple weeks? So I can move onto LLM's

I learned a lot of my python skills from an online course on Udemy - https://www.udemy.com/share/101Wjc3@O8OgFaRhCJGpeMi41AYViwFXbixACDS_vnUGig2YyBx5m4p-wRUbXcAN0OKbwnMR/ Personally a big fan of Jose's style, so if you're happy to shell out some cash I recommend getting one of his courses!

Hi I'm Joshua and I'm from the UK. I'm currently working as a Data Scientist / Full Stack engineer, and I'm looking to make use of this community to improve my skills and also start working on my own projects!
What are you learning right now? Let me know!
Hey everyone! As we’re heading towards the final month of 2024, I’ve been reflecting on what a whirlwind the past few months have been. Q3 and Q4 have been incredibly busy — between running Datalumina, managing client projects, seeing amazing growth in Data Freelancer, shipping the GenAI launchpad, moving into a new office, and onboarding the first customers for our new SaaS product, it’s been a ride. 🚀 On top of that, keeping up with the YouTube channel has been both a challenge and a joy. Honestly, it’s one of my favorite parts of what I do — helping you all learn, grow, and tackle data challenges with confidence. Seeing your feedback and progress keeps me motivated to keep creating. Now, I’m starting to map out my content plans for 2025, and I’d love to hear from YOU. What are you currently learning? What topics would you like me to cover next year? 🎥 Would you like to see more LLM-based tutorials? Deeper dives into machine learning workflows? Maybe even some freelancing tips for data professionals? Or something else entirely? Let me know in the comments — what are you most excited to learn in 2025? This is your chance to shape the direction of the content we create together. Thanks for being part of this community! 🙏🏻 — Dave

At the moment I'm learning how to deploy Vue applications using Azure, and how to integrate Microsoft 2FA into said applications :P

Have learned Full-Stack development at work (originally employed as a Data Scientist) and am now looking to become a freelancer and eventually build my own personal brand from it. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!
