If you have done day 16's daily page ✨ Did you notice how many of today's scribbles turned into faces? Mine did too. So I did a bit of research into this, and it's really interesting. 😍 About 500 years ago, Leonardo da Vinci wrote in his notebook that 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗰𝗸, 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗹. You'll find landscapes, battles, figures and "strange faces" in it. He said it was like hearing words in the jangle of bells. 🔔 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗺 𝘁𝗼𝗼. Researchers looking at two caves in northern Spain found that more than half of the animals were drawn around bumps, edges and cracks already in the rock. 😱 𝙎𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙗𝙤𝙙𝙮 𝙨𝙖𝙬 𝙖 𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙡, 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙙𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙨𝙤 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙚𝙡𝙨𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙞𝙩 𝙩𝙤𝙤. Which is exactly what you did this morning with a pen and a scribble. 🖊️ So if it felt like cheating, it isn't. People have been finding pictures this way for tens of thousands of years. 𝗜'𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗸. This is a new set of digital papers I've been making for the Printable Vault . Robins, wrens, a sleepy little hedgehog, a dormouse tucked up for winter, and more berries than any hedgerow could hold. 🍂 I couldn't help myself. I wrapped across the double spread of my new sketchbook, and the thing that always happens happened again. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻. It already had something lovely in it, so all I had to do was add to it. A few words, a little doodle, a scrap of something. 👉 𝗡𝗼 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗲. (Those little cut-out birds? They're a sneak peek of the tags I'm making next. Shhh. 🤫) - - - - - - - - - - 🗓️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗿. 🎁 I really want you all to try them, so when the set lands I'll be picking one of the six papers to share free with everyone for the first 48 hours.♥️ - - - - - - - - - - 💬 While you wait, tell me: what would you put on a page like this first? A poem, a sketch, a journal entry? And if you've ever stuck something into your sketchbook, a ticket, a leaf, a scrap of wrapping paper, share a photo in the comments. I'd love to see it.
