Wildfires, ripe grapes & real resilience
Hi everyone 👋 Greetings from Arcos de Valdevez in Portugal! Today, our desk is set up in Northern Portugal at the regenerative farm of our community member, @Maria do Céu Bastos. Nadene and myself arrived on Monday evening to spend a few days helping Maria on the farm, cooking together, and exploring how inner development meets the land. Yesterday on our 'Virtual Farm Tour event' we had planned to have a thoughtful conversation about resilience and life skills. And then, life handed us the real thing. Shortly after arriving, wildfires broke out in the hills just northeast of the farm. Yesterday, flames were visible from the house, thick smoke rolled into the valley, and Canadair firefighting planes roared overhead scooping water from the river. When an aerial tower burned down, our internet went completely dark. With emergency bags packed and the cats carrier ready, our conversation turned from abstract concepts to what resilience actually feels like in our bodies: - The More-Than-Human Grief: Waking up in the middle of a smoke-choked night, unable to see, hearing an owl call out in the dark—and feeling the deep ache for the trees, wild animals, and mountain cattle living through this. - The Fiction of Hyper-Independence: For years, society told us to "do it on your own." But when disaster approaches, online followers can’t hold a hose or bring dinner. Last night, it was Maria’s local neighbors who checked in. Real physical community is our truest safety net. - Emotional Resilience in the Disconnect: When Maria didn't immediately reply to phone calls from her family, panic quickly crept in for loved ones trying to reach us. It was a sharp reminder of how reliant our nervous systems have become on instant replies—and how vital it is to cultivate the inner capacity to stay grounded in uncertainty. Yet amidst the smoke, the grounding rhythm of the farm carried on: picking sweet grapes straight off the vine, simmering pasta sauce with garden tomatoes and beans, and gathering quince. Rather than dreaming of escaping to bunkers or private islands, real resilience is about showing up right here—for the land and for each other.

The farm looks beautiful! And how scary to have wildfires so close. I hope the fires are soon contained and there isn't too much damage to the community.
Fall Listening to What is Changing
I’m offering a special fall edition of Listening to What Is Changing on September 17, in recognition of the Global Day of Listening. It’s a 75-minute pause to listen to what may be changing in our lives—and, inspired in part by the Pachamama Alliance’s Earth Listening Circles, to widen that listening to include the living world and the season we’re part of. If you’re navigating a transition, sensing something shifting, or simply longing for a little space to listen, you’re warmly welcome. 🌿 What’s one program or learning experience you’ll never forget?
Let's share the programs, cohorts, or workshops that actually matter and made a difference for our lives - and our work. For me two come to mind: 1. The Art of Hosting 2. The Holding Space Certification And right now I'm looking at 'Zen and the Art of Saving the Planet' from Plumvillage, with Thich Nhat Hanh and Christiana Figueres. Has anyone done it ? What about you? - 🎓 What program: - 💡 Why this program: - 🌱 How did it make a lasting impact: - Looking forward to reading your stories and recommendations! 👇

Hi Nadene and Sarah, I highly recommend the ZASP program with Plum Village. It's very affordable and accessible, and the program is incredibly rich and deep. I think they do a powerful job of providing a virtual program and online community. My practice circle included people from around the world, and we were a great circle of support for each other. I'm considering joining their alumni community, where I'll have continued access to these vast teachings and video library.
Updates 🤩
Hello everyone, Here are a few updates going into the weekend and kicking off September together Three new Skillbuilder sessions to include in your calendars - Sept 3 - on Proactivity. Then on the 10th and 15th we'll be Visioning. Each session is 30minutes allowing powerful connection and touch points for the week. All 3 sessions will be from 18.00-18.30 CEST A repetoire of +300 IDG Tools has been posted in the resource tab and can be accessed here VERY Grateful to @Janolof Elander for this formidable contribution. I'm loving the book "Belonging Remembering Ourselves Home" by Toko-pa Turner - The world has never been more connected, yet peple are lonelier than ever. Most people think of belonging as a mythical place, but what if belonging is a skill that has been forgotten. Do let me know if you are familiar with the book or are interested ....I'm thinking maybe we host a book club? Thank you to all of you who joined the call with @Sarah Santacroce and @Maria do Céu Bastos earlier this week, we are very much looking forward to being together at Maria's farm later in September. Know that you are all warmly invited to harvest and vision together. You may be interested in the Global Conscious Food Systems Summit post made earlier today. Online participation is open on September 1st Stay tuned, next week we'll be announcing a Virtual Facilitation Conference that we're partnering with. Do let us know what you're up to too, we are better together. Sunny wishes to you Nadene & Sarah

Hi Nadene, I really resonate with Toko-pa Turner's work (I aspire to offer a small scale version of it!) but am not familiar with her book. It could definitely be an interesting conversation to join. I'm offering another free session of "Listening to What is Changing" and the fall version includes more of the natural world. The winter version I have planned will include dreamwork (I'm dreaming it up now!) Thanks for sharing this!
Listening to What is Changing
Hello everyone, The topic of spirituality and inner development inspired me to share something I'm preparing. I am hosting a small 60-minute workshop called Listening to What Is Changing and wanted to share it with this community. It’s for people who sense that something in their life is shifting—even if they can’t quite name what—and want space to pause and listen for what might be emerging. It feels like a particular moment right now, where personal transitions and broader collective shifts are sitting closer together—and worth making space to explore. Monday, April 13 · 11:00–12:00 PM PT Zoom Register here: https://goldenthreadcoach.com/events This is an edge for me, offering work that feels more spiritually aligned. I’m very much in the shaping phase of this, and I would genuinely value any honest feedback—what resonates, what doesn’t, and what could be clearer. I have a few spots remaining and would love to welcome some of you there! Warmly, Julie

Still short notice, but due to illness, I rescheduled the event for next Monday. I should feel better by then! 🙏 https://goldenthreadcoach.com/events

Thanks, Nadene. I've run two prototype groups now, and what is interesting, is that everyone was very focused on their personal transitions, versus the collective. Makes sense to care for ourselves before we turn outward. The feedback I received: When I arrived I felt curious, calm and connected. And now I feel even freer. When I arrived I felt contracted, heavy and now more whole and connected. When I arrived I felt overwhelmed by emotions and left with more clarity and my feelings more settled. Julie held holding a beautiful, grounding and relational space I'll be running these workshops on a semi-regular basis; you are all very welcome to attend and take advantage of this space to slow down and listen. The next session is on May 20th at 12:00 PST. If you are interested, but can't make this noon time frame, let me know what would work better for you, and I can try to make that happen in one of my upcoming sessions. https://goldenthreadcoach.com/events In addition, I've launched a Substack following the same theme, so this is another doorway into the practice of slowing down and listening. https://open.substack.com/pub/listeningtowhatischanging/p/listening-to-what-is-changing
