Waiting for the rise! 🍞
I was a little bit busy this morning. Mixed up some dough waiting for it to rise. It's been 4 hrs and nothing seems to be happening as of yet. Starting to worry it won't rise. What to do if it doesn't rise? Do I leave it out of fridge till it rises? Even if it's past 6 hr mark? Or at the 6 hr mark toss it in the fridge and pray for the best? Next up was to feed my starter. I had more then 200g of starter left. I weighed out 200g of starter, 100g water and, 100g of flour. Did I do this part right? Or was I supposed to replace only the 100g that I took out with 50g water and 50g flour? After measuring 200gs of starter. I had a 1/2 cup starter left over. That was the exact amount needed for @Sandra Brenes pancake recipe. I threw in some peanut butter chips. They turn out great! One day I hope to have a better grasp on what I am doing on this sourdough journey. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

@Terri Rosett thanks! I am so excited. I bulked up my starter as @Sandra Brenes recommended.

Day 5: Find Your Rhythm 🍞
You don’t need to learn every kind of bread. Today choose one that makes sense for your home right now. Maybe it’s sandwich bread for lunches, an artisan loaf to serve with soup, flatbread for dinner, or something sweet you’ve been wanting to make. Today’s video will help you think through the different kinds of bread and whether you’d like to begin with yeast or sourdough. If you’re unsure, that’s okay. You don’t have to arrive with every answer. Here’s what to do 1. Go to Classroom and open Make Room to Try. 2. Watch the Day 5 video. 3. Download the Day 5 Companion Worksheet. 4. Choose the bread you’d like to focus on and whether you’ll use yeast or sourdough. 5. Think about one practical next step and where it could fit in your week. Comment below: “The bread I’d like to make is___________ . I’m planning to use_______________ , and my next step is _______.” Or, if you’re undecided: “I’d like to make ______________ , but I need help figuring out _____________.”

I am planning on caring for my sourdough starter. I have also bought yeast and wheat flour to practice making artisan bread. It's hard to find good healthy sourdough bread and bagels at the grocery stores.

@Terri Rosett Go you Terri! You are over there rocking it out!
Day 4: Ready Is a Decision
You do not have to wait until you feel completely ready. What’s one small step you can decide to take today, without waiting to feel ready? Choose one small bread action that takes ten minutes or less, and do it. You might feed your starter, add flour to your grocery list, save a recipe, pull out a bowl, choose a day to learn, or ask a question. Comment with your decision. You do not need certainty before movement. You just need the next step. Your steps today... 1. Go to Classroom 2. Open Make Room To Try 3. Watch the Day 4 video 4. Download and complete the worksheet 5. Comment below with your choice.  You can comment: I decided I am going to ________________________.

Thank you for these kind words of wisdom. Such a great reminder. Today I fed my starter, and took notes of the great progress we are both making, (starter and I). I'm reminding myself I am new at sourdough. And that's it's ok to be new and to be me! Today's progress we have tiny bubbles and a little rise!
Day 3: Make One Small Space
Bread may need space in different places: - Schedule space: A small time on your calendar to learn, watch a lesson, read a recipe, or feed your starter. - Learning space: Permission to understand one next thing before you try it. - Physical space: One visible, easy-to-reach place for a bowl, starter, flour, loaf pan, or small basket. Which space do you need to make right now? Finish this sentence: “The space I need to make for bread right now is ______________________ .” Then take one tiny step. Comment “done,” share a photo if you made a physical space, or tell us which space you are making today. You are not trying to create the perfect setup. You are making room for the next step. Your steps 1. Go to Classroom 2. Open Make Room To Try 3. Watch the Day 3 video 4. Download and complete the worksheet 5. Create one small bread cue in your home 6. Comment below with what you chose or simply write "Done" Optional: Share a photo of your little bread space.
