Post apocalyptic world and resource management
In the early stages of thinking about a new campaign and, inspired by the video you shared - Session -1 Recording (3/18/26), I asked my players for their ideas for media influences. I am a big fan of post apocalyptic novels and movies so was excited to get that suggestion from one player but now I think about it I have a concern about the work involved with managing resources. Generally we are not a group to worry about food, water, spell components, ammo etc but at the very least I think we'd need to make food and water a sought after commodity in a post apocalyptic world. Any thoughts or advice appreciated.

Adding an update for anyone who is interested. I'm having a blast with this and the players are barely involved yet! One the resource management front I decided that, beyond the starting city that escaped the worst of the war, food is expensive and a unit must be used for a long rest. Haven't gone beyond that for the spell resources until I know what my players classes and goals are. My post apocalyptic world is after a war between a god level mage and lich. Factions include a pro magic and an anti magic movement as well as a criminal organisation who salvage from the dangerous wastelands and a builders and land clearers collective (with a goal to form a guild). I also have a resettlement authority with delusions of grandeur.
Welcome to the Game Master's Laboratory!
Welcome to the Game Master Laboratory! This is a place for people who are running (or planning) TTRPG games to brainstorm ideas with other GMs, share ideas and resources, and test their creations with each other. I recorded a short video to get you started, which you can view in this post. It's all about what we do here, but it's also about how to use Skool, so if you're new to Skool, make sure to check that out! If we haven't met you yet, we would like to. Please make a post in the "General Discussion" channel to introduce yourself and tell us... 1. Which systems you like to play/run 2. A bit about the games you're running right now Glad you're here. DM us if you have any questions.

Hi. Started as a GM (5e) 6 months ago with a "let's do a series of loosely connected published one-shots" premise. Having a blast and it's been a good way to get my feet under the table but really feeling the limitations of that plan now. I have always tried to give the players a choice of hooks to follow and I have adapted when they show interest in something to grow that area of the story but it's a lot of work. We play every 2 weeks. Your book blew my mind (well the first half - I haven't finished it) and I am excited to buld a framework to hang the players wants and needs on. Thanks

@Tristan Fishel Current Game is ongoing adapted one shots. Next one will be proactive if I can get my players on board. Any tips to entice would be welcome
New Prep Videos and Happy Hour Haitus
Good news and bad news! The bad news is, Happy Hour Wednesday will be going on hiatus for a bit---I've shifted my work schedule around and I'll have to stop running on Wednesdays. I've made a community poll to see what other times might work here! Since we have Coffee Hour with Jonah, I may hold off on this for now and just making that, but we'll see! If you can't make coffee hour but want to join the chats, definitely let me know and I'll try to prioritize getting this back up sooner. To soften the blow, there are new prep videos in the classroom! We're trying to show proactive prep more in action, so if you want to check them out, you can find some concrete examples in the classroom or at this link: https://www.skool.com/game-masters-laboratory/classroom/b10da8af?md=23cd1876a2ae43f9b5e571db4ba8d69a
