Diesel is 14months now and his: Locating, Pointing, Holding,Flushing and Finding downed birds-100%. But retrieving -0%. He takes ownership of the bird and will not bring back and doesn’t want to let go when you get to him. In the yard playing around with bumpers, frisbees, etc. he does good. Every once in awhile he likes playing keep away, I don’t think that were this issue came from, as far as allowing him to play keep away. It seems more like, I found this and it’s mine and I’m not going to share. I think this may have come from me only having a small area to train in during the summer. I would set out 1 bird and let him hunt , and once we downed that bird , I would put him back in the kennel and set up a second. Some days we would only do a single bird because of the heat. Could I have caused this issue? How can I turn it around?

I hadn’t reached out in a while, just been plain busy. But I have managed to get in some training with Diesel. Here is a video of my last training session. I have him on a 35’ check cord. Where I hunt, I really want to teach him to hunt close. I have been taking it slow, trying to let his natural ability come out. He is 10mo.old. This summer I will introduce him to his ecollar and hopefully by fall we will be ready to hit the fields. Thanks for all your help.

Ok, I want to use a wireless fence for my home, so Diesel can get a little more exercise and a little freedom. Also I have an e- collar that I plan on using in the field. As I’ve stated in previous posts, I’m new at training bird dogs. I don’t want to mess up here. Please advise. Thanks.

Started using the Leather Training Collar this past Saturday. I can’t believe the difference! We went from pulling my arm out of socket to walking like a pro. I’m talking, from the moment I put it on my dog, there was an attitude change. I definitely recommend this valuable tool.
