I'm interested in your thoughts on protein shakes. For the record, I've never used them. And i dont want to. But on fb there is debate about them and apparently the author of 'weightless', the book that people are raving over, says its ok to have 50% of your protein as a shake.

@Graham Phillips thank, totally agree. Also I think shakes are expensive compared to real food. And probably full of upf's.

Thank you for all your postings. My only comment would be something you can't really answer... how to get rid of wrinkly skin without resorting to surgery. Don't worry, you don't need to answer!!

I thought it was well written. One of the stories was told twice. The one thing that confused me was the pricing. I had to read that twice. I initially thought you had a variety of programmes, one of which cost a lot, one of which was 300, another 297. I eventually got that you were trying to show how much it could cost, the value part, but I didn't really see the point. You either will pay 297 or you won't.
How is everyone coping with the Heat?
We Brits love to talk about the weather. So now we’ve got lots to talk about ! But seriously how are you coping? For those on GLP-1s I always recommend Electrolytes but in this weather even more so If you’re on Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro, you’ve probably heard people talking about electrolytes. Some think they’re just for athletes. Others say they’re marketing hype. So here’s the truth. What GLP-1s do These medications slow gastric emptying and switch off hunger and thirst. You eat and drink less (often without even noticing) … add in nausea, diarrhoea or vomiting (common side-effects), and your body can quickly lose key minerals such as sodium, potassium, and magnesium. That’s why the MHRA warns about dehydration and kidney injury in GLP-1 users (even those who aren’t exercising heavily.) (MHRA Drug Safety Update, 2024) Magnesium Matters Most!! Around 70 to 80 % of UK adults already fail to meet the daily magnesium target (At least 375 mg of elemental Magnesium). Magnesium is crucial for: Muscle and nerve function (including your heart) Blood pressure control Energy metabolism Glucose regulation and insulin sensitivity ( and much else besides) Modern soil depletion, food processing and ultra-processed diets make things worse. When you eat and drink less on GLP-1s, magnesium drops even further and fatigue, cramps, poor sleep and constipation can all follow. References: UK NDNS, 2019–20 DiNicolantonio JJ et al., Open Heart, 2018) Ways To Stay Balanced You 100% don’t need neon sports drinks! Simple, natural options work best: Homemade bone broth or stock Mineral water with a pinch of sea salt Leafy greens, avocados, nuts and seeds Low-sugar electrolyte sachets if you’re feeling tired or dizzy This isn’t “overloading” it’s just replacing what GLP-1s help you lose. Bottom line: GLP-1s change how your body handles food, fluids and minerals. Ignoring hydration can increase side-effects, slow weight loss, and harm your kidneys. Supporting electrolytes (especially magnesium) helps you stay energised, regular, and well.

Wearing a hat, but i do that anyway as soon as the sun appears. I am the opposite of a,sun worshipper. I do take vit d3 year round. I volunteer at a dog rescue centre, so we've been going early, before breakfast, to walk them while still relatively cool. Eating more salads. And other food that requires no cooking. If possible only one of us goes out, that way we can keep all the windows and doors open.
Beyond the Jab!
GLP-1s can certainly reduce appetite, but they don't fix food quality, protein intake, muscle preservation, sleep, stress, metabolic health or long-term maintenance. Thats why lifestyle matters ,ost, whether someone is using medication, stopping medication, or trying to avoid needing it in the first place. Question: What do you think is most often missing from weight-loss programmes: protein, muscle, sleep, food quality, side-effect support, or a simply plan for stopping?

I personally think that most weight loss programmes don't look at food quality. I've never attended slimming world, but I have seen comments about it being about it not helping with good choices. The same is true of Atkins, whilst promoting high protein and low very carb there is no emphasis put on fibre. Certainly a lot of groups promote protein powders and drinks, which are all upf. And in my view not sustainable for the long term. But I also think that the drug companies have not put enough research into reasonable ways ro wean off the weight loss drugs, perhaps through proper tested microdosing.
