Ever had this? Your grammar is fine, your words are fine, but the other person still gives you a strange look. Often the problem isn't how you spoke, it's how you listened. While they're talking, we panic about our own answer, catch a few words, and answer the wrong question. The easiest fix is the echo: repeat two of their words to start. Start your answer with an echo, like "My weekend?" Post it below, I read every one. That last line gives them one specific thing to type, which pulls far more comments than "tell me how it felt." A clear, tiny task beats an open question every time.
