I got a Job....👀.don't even know how.
So apparently I got a job. I’m not even sure how because everything happened so ridiculously fast. Honestly, I think I dissociated through that interview and just happened to say the right combination of words because they sent me an offer the next day. It at a cancer hospital, with the exact hours I wanted. Which is actually really cool and slightly terrifying. I’m still kind of in shock because, if I’m being honest, I wasn’t even planning on going into this field. But apparently the universe laughing in my face, and saying, “Cute. Anyway…” This has been a LONG road, and maybe one day I’ll be able to look back and say, “Wow, that was totally worth it.” 🫩For now, I’ll be over here trying to process the fact that I accidentally built a career while mentally buffering for the last walk At this point my therapy is now call "professional development."

I just graduated!
I’m an official MLT! Yayyy! I’m taking the ASCP in 6 weeks. Hopefully that’s enough time to study!

Congratulations!!! Your hard work paid off 🥳
ASCP EXAM ROUND 2
My MLS exam is on the 21st of this month. I’ve been very blocked and i need to pass this time because it’s my second time applying. Because I don’t have much time left, i’m thinking of using the LSU purple and gold book, and the Valerie Polanski Cards. I’ve tried using the quick compendium book but i see a lot of pages and info and get overwhelmed. I also have LabCe that when i study a section and do questions on LabCe on it, I score good. Any recommendations or tips are welcomed…😭

Since you're only a few days away now, really focus on the biggest subjects, especially on the ones you aren't that confident in. HIGHLY recommend the wordsology website for the high yield notes! And I see Marilyn is having a study session the day before your exam. If you're able, definitely join so you can get some extra help and a confidence boost! She's super helpful. The night before your exam don't cram yourself into exhaustion and try your best to get some good sleep the night before. Eat a good breakfast too. These are things I should've done 😭 . On the day of, don't stress yourself out by looking at a bunch of heavy info. Keep it light and the flashcards you have should be good for this. Remember your calculations!!! You wanna get these right since they're easy. On the exam, really think through every question and break it down. Eliminate what you are sure is wrong and go from there. Don't freak out if you don't know something, trust me, I had A LOT of things I didn't know 😭. Make your absolute best guess and move on. I hope all of this is helpful! Good luck and I'm sure you'll do great :)

@Yancy Diaz No problem at all! 😊
Testing in 2 months!!
I’m graduating May 22 and plan to take the MLT ASCP at the end of June. I have the yellow and purple LSU book and MediaLab. I also have the BOC book with all the practice questions, but I find it overwhelming to look at. Anyway. In doing MediaLab I have noticed some virology questions and one or two mycology. We never did that in MLT. We only did Hematology, UA, Chemistry, Immunology, Blood Bank and Micro. Where am I supposed to learn the other stuff? Also, is there a list of formulas I need to memorize anywhere?

Yay congrats on graduating soon! Very exciting. I think the LSU book should be sufficient enough for learning those things, but if you need extra information I would just Google it to find out. On quizlet there are tons of study sets if you search "ascp mycology" for example as well. For formulas you need to know you can find them towards the end of the content guideline here: https://ascpcontentwebsite.blob.core.windows.net/boccontent/docs/default-source/explore-credentials/content-guidelines/ascp_ascpi_mlt_content_guideline.pdf?sfvrsn=507fe042_1

@Catherine Carter No problem!
Here we go!
Just started my clinicals and taking the AMT and AAB in 4 months. Let the studying begin. I purchased lab CE, I have the boc, and purple and gold review book. I still don't really know where to start. On a whim I decided to take a mock exam and didn't do so great because I've forgotten everything I've learned 10 months ago. Panic is setting in. Help 😬

Don't panic! 4 months should be plenty of time to study if you're consistent. That's roughly what I had. I would start by finding the content outlines for those exams so you know exactly what you're expected to know for the exams. Study each subject for at least a week and begin with high yield subjects and concepts. My study routine was basically: 1. Take notes over certain topic using PowerPoints from school and purple and gold book 2. Take a 25 or 50 question selected areas exam on review mode with LabCE over the topic(s) that I just studied, for example, microcytic anemia. 3. Write down questions that I missed or guessed on with the explanation. 4. After studying for a couple weeks take a mock exam on LabCE to see your progress overall. 5. For calculations and reference ranges I wrote them down over and over until I remembered them. I hope this helps! :)
