Just got home from Engineerfest London at Strongroom Studios!
Hi everyone, I've just got back from the most amazing 4 days at Strongroom Studios in Shoreditch. It was great to meet the other students, and to put real faces to the mentors, rather than just Zoom images. The sessions were informative and fun and it didn't feel like learning at all but, of course, we learnt loads. It doesn't matter where you are on the Music Production journey, just starting out or a professional looking to hone your skills; nor does it matter what type of Mastering.com membership you hold, everyone just bonds together and supports each other. I've attached some pictures from the event and showing some of the new friends I made. 🙂 If there is an opportunity for you to attend one of these, don't hesitate, you won't regret it!! 🤩

@Ralph Jebbitt I like the idea of London - and I as sure there will be one given that is where @Rob Mayzes (and others are). I have some friends that live there so could even have a place to crash making the VIP a bit more managable😊

@Ralph Jebbitt that is how I feel about San Diego where I moved after Uni, for work. Lovely place for a visit, not anywhere I would want to live again: 13y was more than enough!
I hope I’m not breaking any rules
If so, I understand if an admin would take this down. Fellow Mastering.com songwriter, Artists, and engineers, I’m developing an opt-in Song Development Artist Directory as part of my Musician Love. The goal is to help song buyers find participating music creators by instrument or vocal role, genre, style, and approved music samples. I’m inviting a small first group to consider being listed, and I’d value input from people who care about craft and how music is presented. Joining the roster doesn’t commit you to a project or guarantee one. Before any project begins, we’ll agree in writing on its scope, fee, and credit. You’ll approve your profile and sample links, and you can request removal from the roster. The current registration form is for singers, engineers, and instrumentalists: https://api.usegoplus.com/widget/form/XyQaAwpAPWuzLj6dqGHR If your specialty is production, recording, mixing, or mastering, please reply with your role and I’ll note the interest as I shape that part of the directory. Thanks in advance! Tony Dee

@Tony Dee Thank you for setting this up!
My RRS Intensive track is out :)
Hello all you good earthlings! My first ever release is here - the song I worked on during the RRS Intensive this summer no less. This is an instrumental electronic track inspired by the sounds and synthesizer greats of the 80’s - hopefully with a modern twist. Hope you all enjoy it! https://synkromia.com Many thanks to mastering.com and all the mentors helping me reach a level where I’m now overcoming my shadow imposter :) Special shout out to @Chris Georgiou and @Dane Holmes who provided invaluable advice and feedback to help me get this track off the ground. And everyone in the RRS course for their support!

@George Fonebookhead Not sure I understand your point, but there is a difference between hearing what EQ does and knowing when you hear something what it needs.
General age consensus of Mastering.com members
Hey guys, I just completed the "Music Production For Beginners" course and something I noticed was how he kept mentioning "A lifetime learning journey" making me wonder if at 52 years old, I'm kind of in the minority of members who are mostly young people here just starting out in the recording industry. A little bit about me. Back in 1991 I went to I.A.R. (Institute of Audio Research) a now defunct Audio Engineering trade school here in NYC. Being about 18 at the time I was too busy goofing off with friends to put in the serious effort to actually study hard and retain the information I was being taught, thinking I would just "wing it" and learn as I went along, some of which I did during my time interning at a professional music studio in Manhattan. However I didn't stay in the industry and went on to work a series of soul crushing office and manual labor jobs instead because they paid better and were more steady work. During I've always maintained a deep interest in Music making, teaching myself to play Bass guitar and playing in several local bands just for the love of the game. Later on I learned a little piano/keyboard but never really bothered to learn music theory because the internet as it exists today and all the wonderful courses available, such as those on Mastering.com weren't available back then. Now I am medically disabled and have a lot of free time and have decided to really put the effort into learning as much as I can about recording/mixing/mastering and creating music with the small digital home studio I put together. I was wondering what the general age consensus of the other members was and maybe a few of your own personal stories as to why you joined the site.

Wow @Peter Rose and @Spark Evans I also went to IAR! I was there in early '92! I still have a t-shirt somewhere 😀. Somewhat similar story - i tried to make a go of it but didn't really know what I was doing and ended up going back to school and working in tech for almost 30 years. I have been in a couple of intensives, and I have found that the age distribution (in those at least) is pretty even.

@Edwardo Santiago I agree - in retropect IAR was a bit disappointing, and you nailed it - very little hands on experience, I guess and I don't think they had any placement AT ALL. I did learn how to edit tape, and calibrate a 24 track tape machine. I totally lucked out getting an internship at Quad (calibrating the tape machine didn't hurt there!), though (again in retrospect) I totally wasted that opportunity - there was top tier engineering talent working there, i could have learned so much if I wasn't so clueless about how to make it work.
