Consulting work disguised as interviewing
We talked about this in group coaching a few weeks ago. I said similar, but also added time/lift limits. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTyfwPYWX/

I had something like this when it wasn't really "consulting" but a relatively small contract tech gig. Dude was asking how I would solve certain very specific problems with his website, which was fine, but then he kept drilling down into specific literal lines of code. I just said we can talk about that after you send the contract for me to sign. He got grumpy and ghosted. Cool.

Different time, long ago, like probably about 2003, I'm interviewing with a local consulting firm. I'm talking about a particular problem I solved in the past and dude wanted to know the name of the client company. (I think it was FedEx Logistics.) He said great, who was the project manager there? (I think I gave the name.) Then we talked about some other past project, same drill, wanted to know the client and project manager. I don't remember if he got one or two of these well-qualified free leads before I went oh go fuck yourself and walked out. Same firm tried to recruit me a few years later, they got told the same thing. Fake job interviews are the worst.
Print copy of the book is back!
Hi y'all, The print copy of my book is back! https://www.lulu.com/shop/anna-kallschmidt/the-unwritten-rules-of-work-social-class-and-neurodivergent-identities-2nd-edition/paperback/product-e7qj699.html?q=anna+kallschmidt&page=1&pageSize=4 I'll be pushing it out more on my platforms once I'm fully recovered (and rescheduling group coaching). But this has been a LONG TIME coming, so announcing it here now. The audiobook will be out August 2nd. Everywhere but Audible for now (I'll add it, they just have more red tape). Personally, I love Libro. Each time you purchase from Libro, a portion of the funds goes to a small independent local bookstore of your choice: https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=25361&awinaffid=2991659&ued=https%3A%2F%2Flibro.fm%2Faudiobooks%2F9780466879280

Ordered. Lulu's checkout page is a UX mess but I got through it.
Group coaching canceled
Hi y'all, I’m so sorry to do this. But I have to cancel coaching tonight. I had a medical procedure this week that I am not recovering from as quickly as anticipated. I’ll be ok, but I need some more time. I’ll make this up as soon as possible.

A weekend gift
I created this Decode Your Boss Toolkit. It's in the classroom. This toolkit provides a 10-question diagnostic to identify your boss's patterns, outlines 5 common boss types with word-for-word scripts, and includes a 7-day action plan with fillable tracking logs to improve your workplace interactions. This is my first toolkit (yes, wrote a whole 400 page book first), so please let me know if you have feedback!

This is really good! Sometimes you need a simple checklist.

One of my favorite cultural differences is the unwritten rule that you don't directly disagree with a plan or idea coming from a supervisor, but you can raise lots of little peripheral objections to hint that you don't think it's realistic. This happens fairly often with Indian coworkers. If you try to delegate something to someone you're supervising, and you're not aware of this rule, you may not realize that those "peripheral objections" are a polite way of saying your plan won't work. If someone above you is describing a plan or an assignment and you're not aware of this rule, you run the risk of being insultingly direct.
