As boring as it sounds, stick with your stock DAW FX plugins until you know what they do, & how they work. Once you are familiar & comfortable with using them, then & only then start looking at the funky pretty wallet-opening plugins. Of these, strategic & intentional select purchasing when you know what you are doing a little more will save you a fortune & limit your buying of sexy stuff you never end up using anyway, while increasing your arsenal of tools that are actually useful. My 2c.
