New and needing support!
Hey everyone. I am in the thick of it with my divorce. My kids and I are still in our house, but we have to get it read to sell. I am really struggling with the loss of our home. My kids have grown up there, and we are all terribly sad to leave. I wish we could stay until they finish high school. Has anyone been able to stay? We have meetings soon to work with a mediator, but my husband is really set on selling.

Hi Lisa, we also sold our home during the divorce. I honestly wouldn’t have been able to afford it, but really wanted to find a way to make it work. It took about 8 months, 25 hrs of home organizers, and 2 realtors to get it done and it was hard. If you do end up selling, rest assured that your children will always be “home” with you no matter where you live. I followed Leslie’s advice and had a little ceremony to thank the house for all it had provided and release it to the next owners wishing it to be a good home for them and their children. A bit nutty, but desperate times call for desperate measures 😝😉 Good luck with mediation 💕
Communication with children
I know this is going to look different for everyone, but what is reasonable communication with the kids when they are with the other parent? My kids dad wants 24/7 FaceTime access when the kids are with me but strictly limits my communication when they are with him. He also bought them a cell phone he keeps away from them when they are with him but demands they carry it when with me. We have conference then court coming up so I am trying to get clear on what to ask the judge for regarding these agreements or orders if needed:.

Hi Leslie and Marina, thinking of you both 💗 I’m sorry to hear about the double standard with communication, Marina. What’s goods for the goose is good for the gander as they say, but some people choose to ignore that 🙄 As far as communication, saying good night to the kids when they’re not with me is important, so I put a reminder on my phone so that I remember to call at the specific time each day they are not with me. I call once and if he doesn’t pick up I wait for a call back (stay by my phone for about the next half hour) and if no call back, I let it go for the day. I figured being consistent for my kids is best and the consistency will become boring to him. My kids don’t have their own phones yet so things will change when they do, but I let them know I will call them to say goodnight. Whether their dad gives them the phone or not is his choice, beyond my control. This works for now and thanks for asking cause I’m also curious what other families do. Let me know what/when you decide! 💕
Trial next week
We are headed for trial next week. Settlement conference made little progress… so overwhelmed running numbers and outcome scenarios in my head. Can’t wait until it’s over!!
