I'm a builder based in southern Utah — would love to connect with any other Southwest folks in here! I recently got to work with Sir Cobalot, which was a great experience, and I'm looking forward to going deeper — his cob oven course is next on my list. Has anyone here done an oven yet? I decided to put in wood flooring. Here are some pictures of framing the floor, filled in the gaps with hay. I have a bunch of wood flooring, a friend gave me, that will cover about half of the floor, then I’ll get some more at the resource center, lots of people get rid of used leftover flooring. The panels are not always the same color, but that can look pretty cool as well.

We got this cool door on Facebook marketplace. It has a rounded top, so I had to build an arch for the frame. Started off by making a rectangle, right where the arch starts, then once that part of the frame was in place, I could cut the top of the rectangle and put in the arch, if that makes sense. Chiseled some slots for the hinges. I still need to make a round window for the door, probably I will cut some acrylic or plexiglass.

Hi everybody, Here’s an update with my cobbin, almost complete with the first cob layer. I got a bunch of cheap windows on Facebook marketplace, one of them is a window from a school bus, for the driver, which slides open. It’s very hard to find smaller windows that slide open, so check school buses as well if you’re sourcing windows. The outside is almost complete with the cob plaster, just a couple of window holes that I’ll probably fill in with some glass bottles. Soon I’ll be on to the lime plaster.
