If you could go back and give yourself one piece of advice before publishing your very first book, what would it be? For me, it would be to focus on building relationships with readers from the beginning, not just finishing the manuscript. I'm curious to hear your answer. Hello team I just wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude to Shani, whom I hired to coach me on my upcoming book, The Hidden Yes: Mastering the Silent Triggers of Influence and Persuasion. What stood out most during the process was Shani’s ability to draw information out of my head and help me organise and articulate it clearly. He didn’t tell me what to think, he asked questions that allowed me to figure things out for myself, like a true coach. At times, it felt more like psychology than writing. He didn’t give me the book. He helped me uncover it. I also loved the efficiency of the process. I learned how to use AI as a tool, not to write for me, but to sharpen my thinking. The ideas were mine; AI just helped clean and uplift them. I genuinely wouldn’t have been able to do this without him. My manuscript will soon go to an editor, and I’m so excited about publishing it on Amazon. If anyone here has any tips on that, I’d love to hear them! Discouraged by publication editing process

One of my goals is to become an editor. My publication has a peer editing system—everyone is an editor. I like this because it allows me to practice, particularly the human side of the process. But over the years, I've stopped editing other people's work. I've become discouraged seeing my peers mostly look only for basic grammar and spelling, while I consistently look at everything. I wish they would scrutinize my work the way I do mine. I understand they have their own articles to finish and proper editing takes time, but I feel like the odd one out for making detailed editing suggestions and potentially making their lives harder. What are some thoughts on how I should handle this?

@Anthony Shelton I think your attention to detail is actually a strength, especially if your goal is to become an editor. Good editing is not only about grammar and spelling it’s also about clarity, structure, flow, consistency, and helping the writer communicate their ideas effectively. That said, every writer has different expectations from the editing process. One thing that might help is asking what level of feedback they’re looking for before you begin. Some people may only want proofreading, while others may welcome deeper developmental feedback. Don’t feel discouraged for caring deeply about the craft. The challenge is finding the balance between being thorough and respecting the writer’s goals and time. Your approach can be a valuable skill as long as it’s paired with good communication and encouragement. I’m curious what type of writing are you hoping to edit in the future?
