Dont compost your chillies and peppers people!
Hope Im not too late to tell you.... Last autumn I saved 1 of each of my varieties of these. I pruned them correctly. Top and bottom dressed them. Stored in very little light at 10°c fleeced lightly( air gap) Yep they came back to life. I didnt have good expectations so kept them in 5 litre pots but of new compost. Well...2 months ahead of new they fruited normally maybe 10% down( probably due to only 5ltr) if they put into 10/ 15 ltrs way hay.. Whats not to like about this. I was made up. Its the 10° that's critical so if you can give it a go, look up how to( Y method) dont be disheartened-they look quite sad mid winter. Just have an encouraging chat with them 🤣

I did this once, exactly as you described. I put them up in my loft room to over winter and then promptly forgot they were there! 🤣
Interesting article
Im sure many of you will have already seen this, or heard of it, however i thought id pop this link up for anyone who hasnt. https://www.gbnews.com/news/britain-stage-biggest-ever-war-simulation-whole-country-ready-war-ready Sound familiar? im sure the plandemic lockups were only for 3 days initially! Itll be interesting to see if this actually goes ahead and what will come of it. Meantime, incase it does go ahead, perhaps itll be a good idea to grab a few extra bits and squirrel them away, to save the panic everyone had before. If you have all your ducks in a row, it will make you feel more at ease.

It's my view that they are always planning something to further demoralise the population. The recent announcements suggesting people should stock up with food and water while paying farmers not to grow food shows exactly how concerned they are for peoples wellbeing. I've been planning since they launched the rewilding scheme in 2022 and I've just increased my garden water storage by 800 litres because this year proved that what I currently have is not enough.

@Alison Foreshew I bought a Kelly kettle a couple of years ago, "just in case". It was recommended to me by a veteran because you only need sticks/wood. It acts as a kettle for hot water and you can put pans on top to heat/cook food. I don't think you can use it indoors though, like you can with a camping gas stove. I had totally forgotten about calor gas heaters, so I may look into that myself.

@Karen Taylor Yes, I did. I only sowed four and all grew, so I'm very pleased with them.

@Karen Taylor I love to see this. I'm doing the same with my grandson, although he never asks to go out in the garden with me but, with some encouragement from me, will engage in the whole process. He already knows how to pollinate sweetcorn and how to plant potatoes. He enjoys helping me when there are beans to be picked and he's quite good at hunting down ripe tomatoes. I've also started teaching him how to save seeds.
Can someone help me with my pumpkin please?
My single pumpkin plant spawned three pumpkins. The first and second grew to about 8 inches but failed to mature, and went squidgy. The third one has grown really big and is quite firm. However, I didn't properly support it and 10 days ago it snapped off the vine. It appears to be undamaged (phew!) and when it snapped off, it was yellow. I have placed it on a 2 inch thick piece of wool in my conservatory, to hopefully ripen. It has started to turn orange, so this appears to be working. The skin is still firm to the touch and I am turning it every three or 4 days to try to get it to ripen evenly. Here's my question: How will I know when it is properly ripe enough to eat? I've never grown them before, so thanks for any help.

Thanks for all the replies. I am happy to tell you that it is now completely orange, and is still quite firm. It now has a new home in a cooler position waiting for me to use it. 😁
