I wanted to put together a free challenge for jazz violinists who have been playing for a while and want to change the way they internalise new language. My challenge for you is set over 7 days and needs at least 15 minutes of practise a day. We take one line over a 2 5 1 in G and work on it in seven different ways, the same way I work on new language myself. I went off on a tangent about mistakes in Beginners Class this week, and I stand by it. That don't make any mistakes thing, we've got to get rid of that. A lot of us came from classical music, where mistakes are seen as a big problem, and that makes sense. Jazz, not so much. We are trying to create music together and we have to take risks, which means mistakes are going to happen. Practice Club is a good place to get used to that.
