Hand signals?
I have been working on training with Willow but am currently unwell and have lost my voice. I've watched the videos but couldn't see anything about hand signals. Is that something that is trained at all? Because at the moment she is loving the fact that I can't tell her yes or no and is running riot (ok, she's not super naughty but is being bit cheeky). Hand signals would be very useful at the moment.

Absolutely! Hand signals are definitely something we can build into Willow’s training, and dogs can actually become very responsive to visual cues. While you've lost your voice, I’d grab a clicker. Think of the click exactly like our verbal “YES” marker — click the moment Willow gives you the behaviour you want, then follow it with her reward. For cues she already understands, you can start pairing a simple hand signal with the behaviour too. Over time, the hand signal itself can become the cue. Just remember the clicker replaces the marker, not the command. So for now you can use your body language/hand signal to ask for the behaviour → CLICK when she gets it right → reward. This is actually a great opportunity to start building Willow's non-verbal communication skills!

BACK TO BASICS: GAMES, TRICKS & A FREE-SHAPING SHOWDOWN 🐶🏆
Today’s live was all about getting back to the foundations 🐶 Matt and I reinforced a few of our favourite games, tricks and practical training tips. As much as we all love getting ahead of ourselves and jumping into the interesting stuff, real progress comes from consistently practising the basics. We finished with a little free-shaping competition that got pretty interesting 😂 Watch the replay to see what happened, then let us know your biggest takeaway in the comments!

She passed her assistance dog public access assessment after her first year and she is wonderful. We are currently tightening up some of her off work drills and strengthening previous tricks.
