I’d focus on whatever you’re covering in class that week instead of trying to learn everything at once. Even 1–2 focused hours a day reviewing notes, doing practice questions, and going over anything you got wrong can make a huge difference. EMT school moves fast, so staying consistent every day is way better than cramming. Also check out the free EMT course in our Skool community if you need some extra study material!
I turn 18 this upcoming Monday and my local department's entrance exam begins in September. I'm currently enrolled in paramedic school as I got my emt basic in high school and I wanted to know what I should practice or think about before making an attempt to interview at a department.
You’re already putting yourself in a great spot, especially having your EMT and starting medic school this young. I’d focus on learning about the department, practicing common interview questions, and getting comfortable explaining why you want to be a firefighter and what you bring to the table. Be yourself, stay humble, and don’t be afraid to go for it even if it’s your first process.
For EMT/Fire, there are definitely a lot, but some of the big ones I’d focus on are SAMPLE, OPQRST, DCAP-BTLS, AVPU, ABCs, AEIOU-TIPS, BE-FAST, and GCS.
