THE MOMENT PASSED, BUT DID THE MESSAGE STAY?
A teacher says, “You’ll never amount to much.” A relationship ends and you conclude, “I wasn’t worth staying for.” Someone you trusted lets you down and somewhere inside you decide, “I’m better off depending only on myself.” The moment passes. Life carries on. You grow older, build a career, raise a family, achieve things and perhaps even forget the original conversation. But sometimes the meaning we gave that moment quietly comes with us. Years later we may still be trying to prove we are good enough, avoiding rejection, keeping people at a distance or working ourselves into the ground without understanding why. This is where yesterday’s conversation becomes important. We don’t only remember what happened. We can also carry what we came to believe because it happened. But an old conclusion does not automatically become God’s truth about you. Perhaps today there is something worth asking Him: Lord, is there something I have believed about myself for years that You never said about me? That is a very different conversation from simply telling yourself to “think positively.” It begins to take us underneath the thought to where its meaning was formed. And that is part of what we learn to work with in Winning the Battle in Your Mind. “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32 TODAY’S POLL: Which one can be hardest to let go of? A — Something somebody said about me B — A rejection C — A failure or mistake D — Something I said or did myself

Two people. Same moment. Two completely different stories.
Have you ever spoken about a family event with a brother, sister or friend and wondered whether you were even at the same place? 😂 You remember exactly what was said. They are equally convinced it happened differently. There is something important in that. We don’t experience life like cameras recording every detail exactly as it happened. We experience, interpret and attach meaning to what happens. That means a difficult memory may contain more than the facts of the event. It can also carry the fear, disappointment, rejection or meaning we connected to it at the time. And sometimes, years later, we are still living from the meaning we gave something during one difficult season. Perhaps somebody rejected you and somewhere inside you concluded, I’m not wanted. Perhaps something failed and the conclusion became, I’m not capable. Perhaps somebody left and you decided, People I love eventually leave. The event was real. But does the conclusion you drew from it still deserve to direct your life today? This is where faith gives us such hope. God can meet us not only in what happened, but also in what we came to believe because of what happened. “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32 There is a practical know-how to examining the thoughts and memories we have built without becoming trapped in them. That’s part of Winning the Battle in Your Mind. POLL: Have you ever discovered that someone remembers the same event very differently from you? A — Absolutely B — Yes, especially family! C — Occasionally D — Never really thought about it

REST IS NOT WASTED TIME
We live in a world that makes us feel guilty when we are not doing something. There is always another message to answer, another problem to solve, another person who needs something. Even when our bodies stop, our thoughts often don’t. We sit down, but mentally we’re still working through tomorrow, replaying yesterday and trying to solve next Thursday. 😁 Yet God never designed us to be permanently “on.” Jesus Himself withdrew from the crowds. He made space for quiet. Rest wasn’t something He earned after everything was finished. It was part of the rhythm. Perhaps that is something some of us need to hear today: being still doesn’t mean you’re doing nothing. Sometimes quiet creates the space in which we finally hear what all the noise has been drowning out. You don’t have to solve your whole life today. You don’t even have to have all the answers. Sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is become quiet enough to hear God again. “Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10 Maybe today, instead of asking, “What else must I do?”, ask: “God, what do I need to become quiet enough to hear?” Explore Untangle Your Thinking in the Inner boardroom and pray about renewing your mind

Thinking about this, sometimes we can be physically still but mentally exhausted. Taking that question to heart today.
Before you write the whole story… ask God
Someone walks past you at church and doesn’t greet you. Within five minutes your thoughts have produced an entire story: Did I offend her? She definitely saw me. Maybe somebody said something. She was a bit strange last Sunday too… Meanwhile, she left her glasses at home and genuinely didn’t see you. 😂 We do this so easily. Something happens, we give it meaning, and before long we are responding to the story in our head rather than to what actually happened. That is why bringing our thoughts before God matters. Not every conclusion we reach is necessarily the truth, particularly when fear, hurt or previous experiences are helping us fill in the missing pieces. Before you spend your Saturday solving a problem that may not even exist, give yourself a little space and ask: What do I actually know to be true here? And perhaps pray, “Lord, help me see this clearly rather than through my assumptions.” “The one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper.” — Proverbs 19:8 WEEKEND POLL: Someone reads your WhatsApp and doesn’t reply. Your first thought is: A — They’re probably busy B — Did I say something wrong? C — Rude! Disrespectful ! D — I’ll send another message just in case they somehow missed the first three 😇
