If you could steal one guitarist's ability...
If you could magically acquire the ability of any guitarist—past or present—whose ability would you take? I'm thinking we might find some awesome guitarists we're not familiar with to check out. Even if they're famous, they may not play in a genre we don't listen to. I'm leaning toward Stevie Ray Vaughn.

@Emily Harper I never knew until recently that he was as good a player as he is. Love his sound.

@Mike Seaton I got to see Doc & Merle live in a small club outside Philly called the Main Point back in the late '60s early '70s. At the time I didn't even know who he was, just went with a bunch of friends. So this big guy comes out leading this older guy to the stage because Doc was blind, which again I had no idea. The guy leading him to the stage was his son Merle. They sit down, pick up their guitars & proceed to blow my brain right out of my head. I've been playing guitar ever since.
Acoustic or Electric?
I get the impression that more of you here are electric guitar players than acoustic; is that true? I've had (and have) both acoustic and electric guitars, and though I enjoy playing both, acoustic is my go-to almost every time. I only play electric guitar when I'm trying to get a very specific sound.

I own & play both. My acoustic guitars do have pickups since there was a time I was playing on stage, but these days I'd say I'm mostly acoustic.
Old gear
What are your oldest playable instruments/ usable gear? Mine is an old Harmony Parlor guitar from the 1940s I got at an estate sale. I also have an Aria violin bass and a Global Les Paul copy, both from the early 1970s. I’ll post pictures later when I have a little more time; I’m currently getting ready for church lol.

My main guitar is a Gurian 6-string built in the early 1970's
12-string acoustic UPDATE
I made the mistake of trying out a 12 string at the store recently. Now I want to add one to my collection as the sound is so much more full than my current 6 string. Looking for recommendations of a budget friendly brand that will not break the bank for a living room musician.

I played a 12-string for years & loved that sound. I had an Ovation shallow body acoustic/electric, which was great depending on the venue we played at. I used to tell the bad joke onstage that the reason I play a 12-string guitar is it gives me twice as many chances to hit the right note. Dumb joke, but always got a laugh during the between songs banter.
What's the most unusual place you've ever played guitar?
Thought this might be a fun question with maybe some surprising answers. What's the most unusual place you've ever played the guitar? For me it was in the forecastle of an aircraft carrier.

I did a gig at a place called Skinny Legs in the US Virgin Islands a week after Hurricane Bertha had hit. Of course we opened the with the Grateful Dead's Bertha. Really set the crowd off & made the whole gig.
