Miriam, hope you get this. Didn’t think anybody was still on! Copied below are some detailed Sonoma recommendations I wrote some time ago. Last updated about 18 months ago but should still be helpful. Let me know if you can read it! The Wine Doctor’s Prescription Sonoma Wine Country Places to Taste & Eat I am a big fan of Sonoma: it is laid-back compared to Napa; has a lot of diversity and covers a lot more geography. It is a farming culture at heart, which helps keep things grounded, so to speak. I have selected 3 areas of Sonoma for you to concentrate on. Due to the sheer size and spread of the county, I recommend breaking these visits into two days. You want to be able to have several stops within easy drives. I don’t expect you to visit every one of the wineries, but this list and the Sonoma website will help you select your favorites! Kenwood / Santa Rosa area • Kenwood Vineyards – 9592 Sonoma Highway. www.kenwoodvineyards.com o Home of Jack London wines, plus many others, including single vineyard offerings from around the county. • Kunde Family Winery – 9825 Sonoma Highway. www.kunde.com o Kunde has been making great wine in Sonoma for forever. Fifth generation family owned. A lot of tasting options, inside and out. They have amazing wine caves built into the hillside. • Matanzas Creek Winery – 6097 Bennett Valley Road. www.matanzascreek.com o Home to great Sauvignon Blanc and merlot. And... amazing lavender gardens. • John Ash & Co – 4350 Barnes Road. www.vintnersresort.com o Since 1980, one of Sonoma’s flagship farm-to-table restaurants. Part of Vintner’s Resort, a luxury place to stay set on a working vineyard. • Salt & Stone – 9900 Sonoma Highway. 707-833-6326. www.saltstonekenwood.com o Nice restaurant with good food and wine. Great location with an outdoor terrace overlooking fields and hillsides.
