Welcome to The Online Skatepark! 👋
So stoked to have you here. Whether you've never stepped on a board before, or you've tried before and want to finally learn properly — you're in the right place. Next you can jump into the classroom Step #2: Start with the First Push mini course — it's your roadmap from zero to rolling. From there you'll find the Fundamentals, Session Replays, the Podcast, and Weekly Challenges. Go at your own pace. Step #3: Jump Into This Week's Challenge The best way to get stuck in straight away. See what the community is working on, give it a go, and share how you get on. Everyone's on the same journey here. Step #4: Show Up and Ask Questions → Skating has its ups and downs → Post your wins → Post where you're stuck → Help someone else And seriously — ask me anything. Fundamentals, tricks, technique, gear, more advanced skating tips — whatever you need. I'm here and I read every single comment and DM. Step #5: Get Early Access to The Full Fundamentals Course 🔓 I'm still building it out but founding members get early access right now. 50 step-by-step videos covering everything from your first push to riding a skatepark with confidence — and I'm adding new videos every week. Hi Ian, obviously every situation is different but I hope this helps. I've been skating a bit over a year, and was 68 when I started, so it is possible. My reason for starting was to work on and improve my balance, which it certainly has, but no expectations of doing anything sensational; I consider just skating around without injuring myself an achievement. But am working on some basic tricks. My advice is go slow, take things easy and always try to think about what you're intending to do first, work out the best way to try that thing and then have a go. Tons of informative videos on YouTube. Hold onto things, walls, bars, cars whatever to prevent falls and injuries. It took me about 6 months to feel comfortable just pushing. Good luck.
The guide I wish I could hand every adult who asks
For the last few weeks I've been writing it down properly. Every week, someone messages me asking "what board should I buy?" — and most of them are worried they'll get it wrong. So I wrote the answer. All 13 pages of it. You can download it at the very start of the First Push Mini Course in the classroom. Free, no email required for you guys — you're already in. Read it. Take the shopping list to a real skate shop. Or purchase online. It's up to you! If you spot anything I missed — or you have any questions or feedback — please let me know. I want to make this the most helpful version it can be. Download 👉 https://www.skool.com/onlineskatepark/classroom/4e0472e7?md=531666e76a054061a1ca4152ede1810b

@Theo Bridgeman I've been really thinking about your suggestions and looked further into it, wanting to better understand the reasons behind it (just me probably, I'm like that). Anyway just got myself a new board - Globe G0 Reverb 8.5" complete as the extra width makes sense. It came with 99a wheels which I've swapped over for the 95a Slime Balls I'd mentioned as it seemed best staying with those for a while longer. Took it to the park today, first time in 3 or 4 weeks I think - just miserable weather! Despite the obvious rusty skating I felt very comfortable on the new deck immediately due to the extra width; I'll definitely benefit from this, so thanks again. Also tried the old 8.00" board with the new 99a wheels, and would you believe it they felt fine! I'd convinced myself I needed to upgrade incrementally, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Anyway I'll keep things as they are for now to see how everything goes. Manuals have improved a little bit too. Cheers 👏👍
✨NEW✨ to the "First Push Mini Course" - Lesson 4: How to Turn
Been leaning with your upper body and feeling like you're about to fall off? This lesson fixes that — turns are all about knee bend and foot pressure, not throwing your body around. In this lesson you'll learn: ✅ The difference between toe-side and heel-side pressure ✅ Why bending your knees is the key to staying balanced through turns ✅ How to progress from tiny snakes to full pump carves If you're ready to keep going, the full fundamentals course picks up exactly where this left off: 📌 Lesson 5: How to Backside Carve 📌 Lesson 6: How to Frontside Carve 📌 Lesson 7: Introduction to Kickturns 📌 Lesson 8: How to Tic Tac 📌 Lesson 9: How to Board Walk 📌 ...and many more lessons still to come 👉 Founding members lock in $9/month for life — the price only goes up as the course grows. Thanks Theo, just followed your directions and made myself a carpet board today 😀, so feeling quite pleased with myself. On the other hand it was quite fiddly and slow for me to do, unlike in your video as you raced through it very quickly, so took me a while but I learned quite a lot in the process. By the end of it I could only manage a short try out - manuals, ollies and shuv-its, which I think I'll probably be focusing on for now. Anyway very pleased with the overall result and think it will be very beneficial, so thanks again. Am looking forward to practising more with it and expect to be able to take some videos too.

Yay, sunny day for the first time in ages, so went to the park. Very interested to try out the new board set-up and really liked it, very smooth and the wheels weren't a problem at all, actually great. On the other hand I was very clunky as it's been so long, so just did some basic stuff which went okay. Looking forward to the next one.
If you could…

I haven't been there yet but I hope to get there before too long as it's consistently rated very highly here in Sydney, so for now I want to skate at Mona Vale.
This Week's Challenge — The Manual Hold
Every week we set a new challenge to help you build real skills on the board. This week it's the manual hold — one of the best exercises for building balance and board control from scratch. No skatepark needed. Just your board and a patch of carpet or grass. Honestly? This is something I still need to work on too. So I'll be joining the challenge right alongside you this week. Check out the full challenge details. Everyone welcome — complete beginners included. Drop your time in the comments, share what you struggled with, and let's see how everyone improves through the week.

@Theo Bridgeman FYI I actually prefer surf skating tbh, I pretty much started with an OBfive and really enjoy it, so fluid and everything. Also wider so my balance is better, wish I'd realised that before getting the skateboard as I would have taken your advice 😀, but heavier so I thought I'd get the skateboard to learn tricks and better control. Anyway I try and use both. Will swap the wheels and bearings on the board - thanks! Great name btw, my nephew in England is called Theo 😊

@Theo Bridgeman Took your advice and swapped the parts on my board but I've only been able to do some very basic skating in my garage due to the constant RAIN! Still, the board does feel better, smoother and the wheels do seem really good so I can't wait to try it out at the park, whenever that might be!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQFGponc340
