What is a glucose spike?
Welcome to week 3 of Professor Chatterjee's blog on diabetes. We'll aim to alternate between the blog and other posts, but after week 4 of the blog I will also make the whole blog available in the Classroom section for those that can't wait for the next instalment. Enjoy!

Catch up on Friday
Good afternoon. We have our community catch up on Friday. A chance to catch up and see how we're all getting on as well as to share our plans to reduce our future stroke risk. I look forward to seeing you there as it's always a pleasure to catch up and to see how everyone is doing. Unfortunately, as I'm on Stroke On call from 5pm I've moved the meeting to 4-5pm. I hope you can still make it.
Week 2: What causes type 2 diabetes?
Welcome to Week 2 of our series courtesy of Prof Chatterjee on diabetes and insulin resistance. You will find the post attached below. Please comment and let us know your thoughts below. Have a great week and keep doing all the great stuff that you are doing!
Your Blood Sugar Is More Than Just a Number
Why glucose stability may matter in type 2 diabetes. This week for our Stroke Prevention tip Professor Chatterjee has written fantastic post about glucose variability and why it matters for stroke risk. There are some excellent diagrams in the post that I couldn't post into the text window, so instead I've uploaded the whole post as a PDF that you can read by clicking the link below. Enjoy!

@Kevin Christian It is true that statins can unmask insulin resistance and so raise blood glucose. It is relatively rare but is something to monitor and if glucose does go up due to Statins it is worth adjusting treatment. Starting Ezetimibe can be a good option as long as it keeps your cholesterol under control - definitely one to work through with your GP and to monitor closely as you have done.
Meeting tomorrow at 6pm
Just a quick reminder that we have our check in tomorrow at 6pm. A chance to catch up, share what we're doing this month to reduce stroke risk and generally enjoy one another's company. We also have a special treat as Prof Chatterjee has written a 2 part post for us about blood sugar. Part 1 will be posted tomorrow. Have a nice evening. Nik
