Mixing Loud
Some EDM producers have stems or groups of stems near 0dB (without clipping) to be in what they call the “sweet spot” of many plugins and then lower gain with the 1st plugin in master chain in same project session. With DAWs having plenty of headroom, what do you think of this vs mixing at lower levels? This goes against a lot of what is taught but I've seen a lot of successful producers work this way.

@Cormac Paul So sorry I never saw your comment until now. Here's one example where Skrillex play literally from his Ableton project and many of his main individual instrument channels are peaking over 0dB https://youtu.be/2dYFJdQf7rs?si=dN8xeidV0QfFstuW

@William Yung Thanks for your reply! But I think it does matter if you have to do a "gain boost before and symmetrical cut after" on some of your channels. For me personally, it just seems like a lot of extra steps and more things to keep adjusting. I'd rather just try to find the best compromise of a sweet spot to do my mixing & mastering. Steve Duda (creator of Serum) anchors his kick at 0dB and mixes around that https://youtu.be/YCYSrn7yTug?si=75m9CvPHiYunvM6B&t=472. He'll lower the mix down gain with a utility on his master. Anyway, I understand there's more than 1 way to do things :)
