When Solving the Problem Creates Another Problem 🤔
@Preston Mark @James Roman @Michele Mitchell @Sunshine King @Mrs Adams @Poinsetta Tillman I kept thinking about our conversation last night and @Preston Mark ’s idea of offering an AI voice receptionist to kitchen and bathroom remodeling and repair businesses. Preston, I’m using your example because I think it gave ALL of us something worth thinking about. 😊 There’s no question the AI receptionist has value. We all know it can answer missed calls, qualify prospects, schedule appointments, answer common questions, and keep opportunities from slipping through the cracks. But we started with “They’re missing calls and losing revenue,” and then uncovered another possible problem: They may not have enough workers to handle the business they already have. So here’s the question that stuck with me: What happens if our solution works REALLY well? If we help them capture and book even MORE business, but they don’t have enough people to do the work, we may have solved Problem #1 only to have Problem #2 show up saying, “Well, hello there!” 😂 But as I thought about it some more, I had to challenge my own thinking too. Maybe that doesn’t mean the service or even the audience is wrong. Maybe the contractor doesn’t need more leads. Maybe the AI receptionist could help them handle their EXISTING demand better by qualifying callers, screening poor-fit inquiries, answering routine questions, scheduling the right estimates, and giving the owner and staff some time back. Now we’ve shifted from “Let me help you get more business” to “Let me help you handle the business you already have more efficiently.” Or, if the offer really is about generating and capturing more opportunities, maybe we look for an audience that has missed calls AND capacity for more customers.(my original lane of thought before I considered an alternate route)

This is the right question to be asking, and you're asking it at the right time — before you've built a client base around a promise that might not hold. Let me challenge the thinking honestly, because you asked me to. The core tension you've spotted is real, and bigger than you framed it You've noticed that solving lead capture can expose a capacity problem. But look closer at what that actually means for your offer: the value of recovered estimates depends entirely on whether the contractor can service them. If a roofer is already booked eight weeks out, an AI that recovers 10 more estimates doesn't create $60K — it creates 10 annoyed homeowners who get told "we can't get to you until fall," or it just reshuffles jobs he would've gotten anyway. Your headline ROI number — the one your whole pitch and demo are built on — quietly assumes spare capacity that many busy contractors don't have. That's not a small footnote. It's a crack in the central claim. So challenge assumption #1: "home service contractors have a missed-lead problem" Some do. But "home service contractor" is not one audience — it's at least three, and they have opposite problems: - Demand-constrained (newer, smaller, or in a soft market): genuinely need more booked jobs. Your original offer fits perfectly. But they're also the ones with the least money to pay you and the highest churn. - Capacity-constrained (established, good reputation, booked out): do NOT need more leads. Selling them "recover more estimates" is selling them a problem, not a solution. They'll feel it, and your "glad they bought it" test fails. - Efficiency-constrained (enough demand, drowning in admin, owner answering phones at 9pm): this is the group your alternate route actually serves — and it may be the biggest and stickiest of the three. Your instinct to split "recovered estimates" from "handle existing demand better" isn't a pivot between two versions of the same offer. It's the discovery that you've been aiming one offer at three different buyers.
What Part of Your Business Would Stop If You Stepped Away for Two Weeks?
Sit with that question for a second. No laptop. No phone. No "just checking in real quick." If the honest answer is "a lot of it," that's not a hustle problem. It's not a motivation problem. It's a systems problem — and it's one of the most common (and most fixable) things I see with entrepreneurs and business owners. When you're the one following up with every lead, answering every DM, qualifying every prospect, and holding every process together in your head... your business isn't really a business yet. It's a very demanding job you built for yourself. 😅 That's exactly what VIP AI Systems Lab exists to change. The transformation we're building toward VIP isn't about collecting more AI tools or prompts. You don't need another course sitting half-finished in a folder. You need business infrastructure — the follow-ups, the qualifying, the routing, the documentation — built well enough that it keeps working whether you're at your desk, on a plane, or taking an actual weekend off. That's what we build, together, one system at a time. 🧠 Think It. Build It. Use It. Every month, VIP members focus on ONE real business system, start to finish: 🧠 THINK IT — Design the system 🛠️ BUILD IT — Build and automate it 🚀 USE IT — Test, optimize, document, and prepare it to scale 🏆 AI SYSTEMS DEMO DAY — Show what you built No fragmented tutorials. No "figure out how to apply this yourself." Just one system, done properly, every month. This month: The Lead Capture Machine We're already in it. August's build is a system that attracts leads, captures their information, follows up, qualifies them, and moves them to the right next step — even when you're not physically there to do it. If you join now, you step directly into this build and start applying it to your own business immediately. No catching up required.
