2026 for my SSA
I’ll be 66 years old in September 2026 and if I apply for SS in October 2026 I have to be at or below the earnings annual test which is 25k. My salary is 8,500 monthly so for the months Nov and Dec I would be under the 25k right? I really need the funds so this is why I need to know if I am working and annually salary is $98k if I start receiving my SS in Nov and December will I be ok as long as I’m under the annual earnings test? I do turn 67 in Sept 2027 so the earnings test is 65k so I’ll be right at the 65k for the months January thru August. so I wouldn’t have to give a dollar for every 3 dollors.
401K
I will be drawing my SS starting in February which is the year I turn 67. I will be earning roughly $65k from January through August 2027. My question is I’m not sure what to do with my 401k that I have is 76.000k?
Collecting once turning 66 years old
Hello, I turn 66 in September of 2026. I am still working and plan to continue working for perhaps 2 more years. If I apply for my SSR this coming September does the earnings test get calculated from September to December of 2026? Then in the year of my retirement starting January 1, through August of 2027, the earnings test is much higher at $65,160. I was planning on waiting until January but 4 months I’ll be under the earnings text. Not sure what to do. I definitely need the SS checks.

@Ed Weir Ed, my salary is 98k so if I divide that by 12 months it’s a little over 8k a month, so it’s way over $2,040 a month. Am I doing this right? However, the 8k gross per month would be the $24k for Oct, Nov and Dec. I’m confused.

Thanks Ed. Have a wonderful evening. Rich
Remarried
Dr. Ed, I’m am 65 and I was previously married for over 10 years and got divorced 12 years ago. I will be getting remarried in September 2026. Will my new spouse receive anything from SS in ether event say I pass away in 5 years? I’m not sure what my new wife can receive on my SS?
Apply for SS
Ed, I was planning on applying for my SS Benefit in the year I retire which is 2027, January. If I apply in December of 2026 will I get hit with the 22k penalty. My plan was to apply in December to receive my first check in January but if I have to wait another month and apply in January just to be safe that's what I'll do. Rich

I’ll just wait to January to post it safe. This way I’ll be at the earnings limit in 2027.
