My beat is clipping and I cannot figure out why
Hey, y'all. So I mixed my first beat on Reason and honestly, it'll be a minute before I go back to Pro Tools. The only thing is my beat is clipping and I cannot find out why. None of my meters are getting to the red. My peak meter gets yellow buy never reaches 0 db, even after I've added the master compressor. I even turned down the master fader to stay in the green WITH the master compressor off and it's still clipping. Initially, my bass synth was too flat. Then I thickened it up with parallel compression AND distortion which made it too thick. The clipping had to have started around that time, because when I deleted the parallel compression, that's when I noticed the clipping. And everything is clipping except my low end instruments. Even my keys are clipping and everything is well below 0 db. The mix is awesome except for that. I'm thinking it's the way I have some of the cables hooked up with this being the first time messing with flipping the rack around... but why wasn't I hearing it when the bass synth was flat? And why is EVERYTHING clipping except that synth and the kick? I used parallel channels on every track for my delays and style reverbs and at first, everything was fine except for the flat synth. I did do reverb sends for depth and dimension (which sounds amazing compared to what I was getting on Pro Tools). And that's another thing. I tried turning the sends down. Still clipping. I turned them all the way off. Still clipping. I know this is a long shot since you can't see the mix, but could simeone possibly help me out? I've reached out to support, but they take a minute sometimes. The other thing I was thinking is that maybe the file is corrupted. One time, I accidentally saved it while it was playing. It made the session crash, but it did save and I didn't notice anything at the time.

Actually, y'all, my midside router wasn't connected correctly. I found a YouTube that showed me how to do it.

Panning question when bouncing the final mix
Hey, guys. When bouncing the final mix, how do you get the panning to sound the same in each speaker? I barely pan. The only panning I use is for my percussion instruments and even then I do it very subtley. When I put on headphones, the volume of each side is the same. Before I got serious about mixing, I panned and noticed the difference in volume in the way I had my tracks panned. When I started takinh mixing seriously, I use width to space stuff out except for percussion instruments that clash, i.e. hi hat/tambourine/shaker or bongos/congas. I'm on Reason right now and everything is analog, so there's no double clicking and deleting the (-) sign or adding it to do pocket EQ. I'm going to have to turn each knob manually. This could take like a week. I have 39 tracks in this beat. Is there a way to pan but still have everything at the same volume when I fo my final mix while keeping it stereo?

@Tom Baldwin You are so very right. I do remember I used to bounce my entire "mix" to a single mono summed track and then bounce that single summed track into two stereo tracks. I forgot all about that lol. I promise I've come way far from those days. So let me give a little more context. I make hip and R&B beats usinh MIDI. Most of the melodic instruments' L and R channels modulate by varying levels according to the nature of the sound I use. I don't use real instruments. My mixes have one track per sound. I see in a lot of Jake's MTM sessions, there may be like 2 or 3 guitar tracks all playing the same thing not including any solo rifts (to my understanding). My end goal is to get more efficient in how I mix. I can get a really good sounding mix, but it takes me anywhere from a month to a month and half to do it. One area I spend a lot of time in pocket EQ. When I'm mixing a beat with 39 tracks, it does take 3 or 4 days and that was once I got efficient at pocket EQ. This is my first time doing it on Reason and it's taking even longer because I have to turn the analog style knobs individually. If there were a way to space out the tracks before I get to the reverb stage, I'll have a dope sounding mix. Reason uses the SSL 9000 sound board emulation and you can instantly hear the difference when I used to export the tracks from Reason to Pro Tools. I don't see how pros could get the the type of mixes they get using Pro Tools without using using top notch external gear. But anyway, I thought panning might the way to go, but when I listen to mainstream hip hop/rap and R&B, every sound is the same in both speakers and the L and R channels are moving at different levels like the volumes of the two channels on an VU meter. It looks like panning isn't what I'm looking for. Keeping everything centered but at different widths has been doing what I want, but the pocket EQ is just time consuming, especially when most days, I'm only mixing for about 3 or 4 hours.

@Tom Baldwin Bet. I'll keep looking out a process that simplifies what I've been doing. I love that idea you with the two sets of guitars. When I get established enough to pay musicians to play their real instruments, I'll definitely be trying that out.
Crazy UAD compressor sale!
Hey, guys. Actually, my title is a little misleading. Universal Audio has the 175B and 176 compressor bundle listed regular price for $149, but Plugin Boutique has the exact same bundle for $39 right now till August 31. Plus, any purchase there also comes with a freebie, so you tell me... https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/2-Effects/8-Compressor/10940-UA-175B-176-Tube-Compressor-Collection

Mixing on Reason 14
Hey again. Say, does anybody mix on Reason? The last time I tried to mix on there, it slowed way down and I hadn't even completed two analog plugin chains, so I left it. I really want to give it another go, so I went and looked at their add-on rack extensions. I didn't see a single piece of hardware emulation I recognized. I'm on the fence. Is it worth learning or should I just stick to doing the beat on Reason and mixing in Pro Tools?

@Richard Hawkes Preciate the advice, but I really to learn these rack extensions. They're more closely related to hardware and one day, I asking God to give me a real studio with hardware one day and I'd like to know it pretty well already. Plus, my shot at the industry may come first through hardware and I don't want to go to someone's studio and tell them I'm good with plugins but inexperienced with hardware. I want to learn how to do all the routing and a few basic customization via routing. I probably will use a few plugins, like they don't have an MU meter rack extension in there, so I'm using my plugin.
