MY 5 STRUGGLES 1. I sacrificed a lot chasing success, and somehow ended up without the family life I thought I’d have. I spent over 2 decades working, providing and building a successful career. I made good money, but I feel I have nothing to show for it. At 45 I look around and think, I did everything right, but where’s my family? That shit haunted me for a minute. 2. The distance between me and my daughter hurts more than almost anything. I love my daughter more than she probably realizes. Not being part of her everyday life is something I carry with me heavily. She was my princess and always by my side until she grew up. I can’t fix everything or control everything, and accepting that has been one of the hardest things for me. 3. I’ve dealt with depression and periods where my own mind works against me. People see me training, joking around, learning and helping people and probably assume I’m good. Most times I’m not. I’ve learned that looking strong and actually feeling strong are two completely different things. I carried a lot of anger and hurt for so many years. Now I choose to see the grateful side of things and life, and this was the idea behind the Reel I posted today. 4. I’ve failed at things I genuinely believed were going to work. I’ll get excited about something, put everything into it, and sometimes it just doesn’t work. After enough of those, you start wondering, Maybe I’m not as capable as I think. There have been times when failure didn’t motivate me. It made me feel hopeless, and feeling hopeless for awhile becomes a challenge on its own. 5. I’m watching a 20+ year career and six-figure income disappear. For most of my adult life, I knew where my paycheck was coming from. I had stability, benefits and a career I understood. Now at 45, I’m essentially starting over. Part of that feels freeing. Part of it scares the shit out of me. MY 5 CONTRASTING WINS 1. Pain didn’t destroy me. It actually made me a better man. I’ve been through things I’d never choose to experience again, but I’m more self-aware, empathetic and appreciative because of them. Some of the things I like most about who I am now came from things that hurt.
