Allergies/ Hayfever protocol

Why allergies occur Allergies are primarily driven by a dominance of the Th2 immune response (which can be due to factors such as parasites, ) leading to a higher production of interleukins such as IL-4 and IL-13 which increases IgE antibody levels which then bind to mast cells and basophils triggering degranulation and subsequent release of histamine - causing classic histamine symptoms such as allergies. When the gut lining is impaired (leaky gut), this results in food antigens, lipopolysaccharides, bacteria, cell membrane components such as beta-glucan, candida and fungi and microbial by-products such as acetyl aldehyde and Hydrogen sulphide into the bloodstream. Once these enter the circulation, they can travel to almost anywhere in the body - such as the brain, sinuses, lungs etc etc. In the case of allergies these may enter the lungs and sinus regions causing inflammation and permeability of those tissues. Now, when antigens such as pollen, dust and animal fur enters the lungs - they are already in a dysfunctional state to respond appropriately - antigens now cross through the lung epithelial tissue to activate dendritic cells which then cause the B cell >>> IgE production >>> binds mast cells >>> histamine is released cascade. In studies and through mechanistic data, allergies can and have been linked to: - Low beneficial bacteria Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus and Faecalibacterium - which produces butyrate needed for T regulatory cell expansion. - Low microbiome diversity - Dysbiosis / an unhealthy microbial environment (especially during younger developmental years) - Lipopolysaccharides / Gut infections - Histamine overload (can be due to overproduction, lack of systems needed to break down & metabolise histamine such as DAO - Diamine Oxidase, HMNT bottlenecks and genetic SNP's) - Parasites/ Helminths - - Low vitamin D levels - Vitamin D lowers IgE production from B cells, also by lowering Th2 + Th17 whilst increasing T regulatory cell expansion. This is very important - Low POMC and Melanin - Mould and mycotoxins

Biofilm protocol 🦠
Biofilms are a HUGE global health concern as they are rising in prevalence year on year, in hospitals biofilms are even more abundant and are associated with pathogenic bacterial strains such as E. coli, salmonella, klebsiella, MRSA and others. Once they colonise the GI tract - or any epithelium such as the nose, sinuses or throat they can result in bacterial infections which can be extremely difficult to get rid of. Modern medicine offers antibiotics for infections, and this can be highly effective, however most do not affect the biofilms and the bacteria within them - only creating collateral damage to our own DNA, Mitochondria, paneth cells, goblet cells and deplete nutrients such as Coenzyme Q10. This guide should lay out a path for those who think they are dealing with biofilms. (This is not a substitute for medical interventions and it is not medical advice. Thank you Here's what were going to do (In 3 stages): - Remove/ Limit the substrates needed for the bacteria/ fungi to make biofilms - Interrupt bacterial communication - Begin breaking down biofilms 1 - Remove the substrates needed for the bacteria to survive First off, I am not saying that completely cutting out a food group like FODMAPs, Sugar or Resistant Starch is the answer, but reducing the fuel availability (for a period of time) can be beneficial as this will give the bacteria or fungi less energy to use to carry out metabolic processes such as generating biofilms. This may mean just reducing the intake of a particular substrate such as FODMAPS/ Resistant Starch/ Sugars e.g. fructose by 20-80% for a short period of time. The amount of reduction needed will depend on the severity of the issues. I would recommend limiting the food substrate that causes the most discomfort/ symptoms as this indicates the pathogen is metabolising and interacting with this. For some people this will mean lowering specific FODMAPs such as oligosaccharides/ fructans (e.g. garlic, onions) or sugars such as high fructose fruits e.g. pears, mangoes, grapes.

Oral Microbiome Protocol
Many strains of bacteria found in SIBO are also present in the oral microbiome (Streptococcus, Prevotella), suggesting that oral dysbiosis might be a upstream cause for SIBO and gut issues. Think about it this way - every time you swallow - thousands of times per day - you are letting bacteria, fungi and biofilms come down from your mouth and sinuses (as we will get onto later) down into your small intestine - and eventually your colon. Now if you have a bacterial, fungal or biofilm issue in those regions it is probably going to get into your small and large intestine if stomach acid is low. The main oral health protocol: - coconut oil pulling each morning for 10-15 minutes then spit out - tongue scraping with a stainless teel or copper (even better) tongue scraper each morning and wash thoroughly - brushing teeth 2-3x a day with natural toothpaste or hydroxyapatite - brush the tongue with toothbrush morning and night - natural toothbrush (boar, horse, bamboo bristles) - nasal breathing at night time - can mouth tape if needed, or use nasal strips to increase airflow - occasional (e.g. weekly/ biweekly) black seed oil pulling 10-15 minutes then spit out - Gut health, immunity and nutrition all play important roles here Doing some of these things, on top of working on gut health, nutrient saturation for immunity, gut lining and inflammation control, getting morning sunlight and respecting your circadian rythms will really move the needle in the right direction with gut permeability/ dysbiosis/ SIBO or fungal issues. @Dom Inokaitis Hey Dom, I usually get myself and clients to take black seed oil away from meals for gut health purposes and antibiofilm/ anti pathogen properties. The best time would be the morning first thing, midday away from food, and at night before bed. 1 teaspoon each serving. Try get a high quality black seed oil with a high TMQ content above 2.5% Let me know if you have any other questions

@Julian Wong Hey Julian, yes taking certain antimicrobials such as oregano, Grapeseed extract will very likely negatively impact beneficial flora if taken for more than a few days at a time. Berberine, Neem and Allicin are a little less potent but more mixed - some studies show increased levels of beneficial flora others show slight decreases. Whilst herbs/ phenols and other compounds such as caprylic acid/ Monolaurin/ coconut oil, pomegranate husk, Quercetin, Lactoferrin, Mastic gum, black seed oil, EGCG and Chinese Skullcap are all much more safeguard antimicrobials and act more as mod biotics than wrecking balls for the microbiome. Most people should start with this approach first. I hope that helps!
