Building with n8n: How Do You Make Automations Reliable in Production?
I'm currently building automation workflows with n8n, and there's something I've been thinking about. What happens when you build an automation, sell it to a client, and some nodes suddenly fail or an API stops responding? One concern I have is delivering an automation that works perfectly during testing but starts breaking when it's running in a client's business. Is this a normal concern when starting out with automation, or am I missing something? How do you make your workflows reliable enough for production? Do you build in error handling, alerts, retries, or some other safeguards? I'd love to hear how those with real-world experience handle this. I believe there's a lot to learn from the things that break, not just the things that work. 🤝

@Rob Olson Thanks for sharing this, Rob! I hadn't come across it before. I'll definitely check it out. Having a centralized way to manage, deploy, and monitor client workflows could be really valuable as we scale our n8n automation services. Appreciate the recommendation!

@Malik Ahmed Absolutely, Malik. That's an important distinction. A successful execution doesn't always mean a successful outcome. Building proper validation, error tracking, and alerts into workflows is what makes automation reliable and scalable. Appreciate the insight!
Automated ICP qualification pipeline with n8n, Exa, and Gemini (First Build)
Just finished my first full automation build to solve raw domain qualification. Instead of manually clicking through hundreds of websites to check fit, the workflow handles it automatically: - Loops through domain lists/Apollo Filter List - Scrapes the live website copy and captures a screenshot - Uses Exa to pull target decision-maker details - Feeds live data into Gemini to score against custom ICP criteria - Saves structured summaries, qualification evidence, and contact info into the database Additionally, I ran target research using Antigravity and Claude Code Skill to hunt for direct emails, hitting around 70–80% accuracy once verified through ZeroBounce. Curious how others here handle edge-case qualification when company websites have minimal copy.

Thanks for sharing this, Chanyeasna. I’ve been exploring similar lead generation and qualification workflows with my self-hosted n8n setup, so this is particularly useful. I'll go through your build and the discussions more closely, especially the ICP scoring, evidence collection, decision-maker research and how you handle low-confidence results. I also want to understand what works in practice and what can be improved. I appreciate you sharing the walkthrough with the community!
Welcome! Introduce yourself + share what you're building 👋
Welcome! It's great to have you here. Before you introduce yourself, let me tell you why this community exists. 📍 Our mission The world is about to split between people who can use AI and people who cannot. We exist to stop that gap becoming permanent. This community exists to put you in that second group. My team and I run Morningside AI, a 7-figure AI business working with everyone from local companies through to Fortune 500s. Along the way, we created the AI Automation Agency (AAA) model: the framework thousands of people now use to start and scale their own AI businesses. Everything we teach comes straight from the frontlines. Not theory. Not guru talk. What's actually working right now, handed over. And we've watched complete beginners in here go from "I know nothing about AI" to landing their first paying clients. That's the whole point of this place. You're next. With that out of the way, start here 👇 1. Introduce yourself below. Drop a comment with: - Where in the world you're from - What you're building toward (first client? career change? scaling an agency?) - One thing you're stuck on right now 2. Then head to the Classroom → Start Here. It takes 10 minutes, and you'll know exactly what to do first. While you're in the comments, read a few intros. If someone's story sounds like yours, tell them. Some of the best client work in this community started with two members saying hi. See you inside, Liam 💪🏽

@Chanveasna Eng Yes, I'd love to see it! I'm also exploring lead generation and outreach with my self-hosted n8n setup, so a walkthrough of how you qualify raw lists would be really helpful. Thanks for offering to share it!

LFG!!!!
AI agency owners: what does your client delivery stack actually look like?
Quick one. Most AI agency setups I've seen run client work across 6 to 10 tools: n8n or Make for workflows, Vapi or Retell for voice, a CRM, a site builder, Stripe, and a Notion doc holding it all together. Curious about yours: 1. What tools do you use to deliver for clients? 2. Which one do you hate paying for the most? 3. Do you white-label anything, or do your clients see every tool's brand? I'm a dev building in this space, so I'm genuinely trying to understand where the pain is.

@Bharti Kaith This is really helpful! I'd love to learn more about how you set up and self-host n8n on a VPS. Which VPS provider would you recommend for someone starting out, and what would be the best way to get started? Currently, I'm using Google's free $300 GCP credits, but it's been a bit stressful. Whenever the credits are close to running out, I have to move to another GCP account, and getting everything set up again can take days I'd really appreciate any advice on how to set up a more stable, long-term hosting solution. Thanks for sharing! 🙏

@Bharti Kaith Thank you, Bharti! I really appreciate the recommendations. 🙏 I'll definitely look into Hostinger and Hetzner. One more question: when setting up n8n on a VPS, is the installation and maintenance fairly straightforward? And would you recommend managing it with Docker? I'm trying to find a setup that's stable enough to run client workflows long-term without constantly worrying about downtime.
