Raymond Chandler's "The Big Sleep." It's within reach at my workstation. The plot is a mess and there are a bunch of un-sympathetic characters, but Chandler's prose is pitch perfect.

My marketing mantra is: "It's not the book. It's you." See above for @Lana McAra's wisdom. We gotta put our author brand out there and talk about something -besides- the book. The stories we write are resume items that value our broader personal brand. Welcome others into the craft. Share wisdom about the creative process. Encourage the world to stretch beyond self-imposed limitations. Leave every person you meet in a better place than you found them. The highest compliment I can get is, "I love the way I feel about me after being with you." Keep that in mind as you ponder how to frame what you've written within the context of your life's purpose. You will find your tribe and all of the joys (and challenges) that come with it.

What happens in Tulsa...
I left home on Friday at 10am headed to Jacksonville and my flight to Tulsa for the writers conference. I had a layover in Dallas, then 1 hour flight north to Tulsa, OK. When the plane landed, I turned on my phone and got a message that my flight from DFW to Tulsa was CANCELED. Can you believe that? I was stranded in Dallas. I did a Google Maps search and found out Tulsa is 4 hours from the Dallas airport, so I went on Expedia and rented a car. Before I left the plane, I had my car and went directly to pick it up. I had only carry-on luggage. Thank God! Hitting the interstate at 3pm in Dallas is no joke. I arrived in Tulsa at 9:30pm, passing 2 car accident slowdowns along the way. But I was THERE. Saturday was magical. Workshops were standing room only and so many great comments on the feedback sheets. I was fully booked for my author pitch sessions. I connected with the owner of an app that helps fiction authors visualize their story. He wants to partner with me to send us authors when they are ready to publish. He has 60,000 subscribers. Those connections are my primary reason for going to these events. As a bonus, I sold ONE BOOK. LOL NEVER WILL I FLY AMERICAN AGAIN, BTW.

We are frequent Delta fliers. They seem to get it right most of the time. Thrilled that you had such a productive weekend!

@Lana McAra I love how you didn’t let it stop you from getting where you wanted to go. The story of your success.

You know you're a writer when it's 2am, the muse is still singing and you tell your tired self, "One more scene, and then I'll go to bed." But you know you won't.
