The Breaking Point
It’s been a while since my last post, I’m alive and on the road to recovery with the knee surgery. I’ve been on the right path, physically moving along great and ahead of schedule per my doctor and PT team. BUT I wasn’t me. The lack of working, moving, really being able to do anything began to hit me hard mentally. I’d play it off fine to family, friends and colleagues, but I haven’t been fine. The second major surgery in 8 months and the excessive downtime finally got to me. My life had become a routine of getting up, PT, home to ice, make a few calls and then I was finished for the day. I was unable to go search for new opportunities, work out, cook, basically the things that justified my daily existence. I was at my breaking point and then I got the OK to return to 50% work, I can visit customers again and interact but no walking job sites, which I’m good with. I got this Andy Frisella motivation today and it really hit home to me as it opened my eyes to where I was and where I’m at. I didn’t adjust it as I’ve done before for language as I needed to hear/read it as written. While I know I still have a long way to go, two more months might minimum in the leg brace and PT through December at a minimum, I’ve found purpose again and will continue to improve. You don't change when you're comfortable. You don't change when it's "kinda bad." You change when you hate your life so much you feel fucking disgusted with yourself. When you look in the mirror and can't stand what you see. When the way you're living makes you sick to your stomach. When the cost of staying the same feels worse than the pain of changing. That's the switch. That's the breaking point. That's when shit changes. So if you're there now… Good. It means you're ready. Ready to rebuild. Ready to create the life you actually want. Disgust isn't the end. It's the beginning of everything you ever wanted. ~ Andy Frisella
Nobody Should Question Why You’re There
Build yourself into someone who nobody questions what you bring to the table. When you walk in "the room" everyone already knows why you are there. You have to be so good that it’s pointless for "the room" to exist if you’re not in it. That's what it means to be undeniable. That's the minimum acceptable standard if you even want a chance at winning big. That's what it takes. That's on you. ~ Andy Frisella
An Update
Two weeks ago, I had the knee surgery done and once the surgeon got into my knee, he discovered that rather than the expected tears in the ACL, MCL, and meniscus, I had a shredder ACL that, as I was informed yesterday at my two week follow up, caused no stability in my knee and explained 95% of the pain I had been experiencing. Now again, two weeks out, I was told to start putting weight on it, ween off crutches, and they took the restrictions off the brace but I will be wearing the brace for the next two to three months. I’m to go full steam ahead with PT and by medical standards, I’m much farther along than a normal two weeks post op. In fact my surgeon was almost giddy sounding when he looked at my repaired knee and how well it looks now, apparently the first time in almost 30 years that I’ve had a fully functional knee. PT and shorts, can’t get pants over the brace, for the foreseeable future.
An Extraordinary Life Requires Uncertainty
Certainty & greatness don’t go together. If you want a great life, you are going to have to learn to live with uncertainties. If you want certainty, you are going to have to settle for less than what you really want. An extraordinary life requires risk and the ability to live with uncertainty. There is no guarantee on anything. The only guarantee is if you don’t make it fucking happen, it'll never happen… ...And the only stories you'll have, are stories of what might have been… …if you had a little courage. ~ Andy Frisella
The World Needs Your Story
You don't always see it… ...But you matter. The world wouldn't be the same without what you bring to it. I know it can feel heavy. I know it feels like you're behind. I know it feels like nobody notices. ...But the truth? Everything you're going through is shaping you into exactly who you need to be. ...And one day you'll look back at this time and realize it was building you all along. It's just another test to pass. Keep going. The world needs your story. ~ Andy Frisella
