Team communication
What do you use for your team chat? My team uses What’s App. We use it mostly for informal chat and pictures. What do you love and dislike about your chat program? What do you wish you had to communicate with your team?

1. Shucks. 2. We use the chat for convenience and for fun, but anything official (almost always) gets sent by TeamSnap email as well. 3. It’s worked well until this year, but I am rethinking things a little this off-season. Notification traffic increased some this year because of the way we had to structure our schedule, and I think our email read rates went down some.
Your Best Tips for New Steers on Deck?!
Hey folks - please give a big HURRAH to @Taffie Lynn Butters and @Cindy Cheong who are diving into the Level 1 Steering course. Those of you who have been doing this a while, what are 3 tips you'd share with them?

Make sure you and your drummer (or anyone else on the boat who might give a command the crew would follow) are clear on what and when it’s okay to call. Minimizing surprise boat movements can be helpful when you’re getting your legs under you.
Regional Vocab!
What do you call.....?? Let's start a list of regional variants for common commands. e.g. what do you call when you want people to stop paddling? What do you call a sideways hold? Let's hear all the weird and wonderful commands! 👇

@Annie Winkler TBH, I think it’d be easier to make the leg drive cue “legs” and leave “let it ride” alone.

@Lesley Blyth I like the addition of “release.” We use “let it go” (without singing) as needed, but it’s not a standard book-end to commands like “stop the boat,” “hold,” or “brace,” and it prob should be.
Flying w/Paddle(s)
For those who fly with paddles, how do you pack them, and do you check them or carry them on? I’m primarily curious about traveling with a single paddle, but I’d also love to hear how coaches manage carrying paddles for a whole team.

Also, not the core of your question, but I just noticed your phrasing — sample size of one, but it’s never been coach responsibility to transport the paddles for any camp I’ve attended with any team. Paddlers figure it out as a crew, in small groups, or individually.
