Ohio STR LLC
Hi all, I'm in contract for a property in Columbus and would like to set up a LLC because it will be a STR. Anyone have experience setting one up, or have recommendations for lawyers to help with this?

I haven't used them yet but in process of working with them. (https://www.strlaw.com)
Holding company -- when to pull the trigger
Hello! I watched a training video with Ryan from 9/25/25 on LLC structures, and the complex example he described was a Wyoming holding company LLC with child LLCs for each rental (short term or otherwise) below it. The STR Law guys pushed this from the get-go for me. Is it common for short term rental owners intending to scale in the future to use this strategy from the start? As a California resident, I think this will involve an annoying $800 fee per property and for the holding company.

I had exact same question. Thanks for asking. After researching about it, I kind of decided to start with what you can manage and be compliant. Also, keep that in mind that lender doesn't allow to close in the layered LLC. In order to close, LLC must be on your name and than later you can make WY holding company as owner. I consulted the STR Law guys as well and they also pushed this from the get-go.
Intro
Hello everyone! I am on my first STR journey and have been "obsessed" with it as there is so much to learn. We have 2 long term rentals that we are planning to sell to redeploy the capital. I have a W2 currently but will like to replace my W2 income in 3-5 years with STR. I would like to be location agnostic as I have two kids that I would like to travel with during the summer. I am currently researching the STR framework and trying to figure out how to set it up. The framework makes sense but I think the devils in the details in this journey. My target market area for my first STR is in the Poconos. I would love to chat with others who are in the beginning stages or have STR in the Poconos. Thanks all.

Hi Yim, I have been operating in the Poconos about 6 months now. It's not hard if you have a great team and you price it right.
Location/Market Research for STR
Are there are resources or pointers on researching markets to invest in?

I would definitely stay away from who asked large coaching fees. There is lots of free resources available. Also I would recommend https://theshorttermshop.com/. No upfront fees, just purchase a property through them with standard seller's commission.
Single member LLC for STRs?
Dear community I would like to get your thoughts regarding setting a single member LLC as the STR owner. I understand it helps with liability issues but it also increases complexity in terms bookkeeping, separate finances, state reporting, etc. Is there any other LLC benefit I’m not considering? Thanks

@Andrew Chen Hi Andrew, I just got in contract for my second one in the Poconos. I was exploring the answers to the same question you have. Let me know if you learn anything new on the topic. Thanks
