I've been watching a troubling trend in the sales training world. And, honestly, even in this community... (If you're still hoping for those 40-50% close rates... ...and you're still at 10-15%...you'll want to read this. Because, honestly, this is all that matters. Sales people are always searching for tools, techniques...and persuasion frameworks. They fall in love with the IDEA of it. (NLP, SPIN Selling, Sandler Selling System, Challenger Sale, Straight Line Selling...even my system) They memorize the scripts. They drill the reframes. They run the reps a thousand times, in the mirror and on real calls. And they white-knuckle it alone for years. Nobody ever watches them work. Nobody ever tells them the truth about the two or three spots where they're quietly bleeding the sale. So they lose years. Years of guessing. Years of "why didn't that close," replayed at 11pm with no answer. Here's what no amount of solo practice can fix. You can't see your own leak. From inside the call, the thing costing you the deal is invisible. It's invisible to everyone in their own conversations — me included, which is exactly why I still get coached. But another set of eyes catches it in about ten minutes. Someone who's closed at the level you want to, who watches your actual call, points at the exact spot, and says "there, that's the one." That's how a 10% closer becomes a 40 to 50% closer. Not by burning it down and starting over. One better question. One cleaner reframe. One place where trust broke, repaired — and you feel the room shift. There's no replacement for that. None. It's the whole reason the live calls exist, and it's why they matter more than any course sitting in your library. Because most of the time, what broke was trust. One of three kinds, and you couldn't see which. Them trusting you. Trusting the offer. Trusting themselves to actually pull it off. Trust was never luck. You build it on purpose, the second someone shows you which leg gave out.
