Placing at the State Fair
Hi all. A few weeks ago I placed first in our county-wide talent contest which earned me the opportunity to compete in the state competition. Well, that started today (Fri., 8/28/28) at the NYS Fair. Today was the first of 5 preliminaries. There are 58 contestants in the MAXI division (ages 13 and up) and a bunch more in the MINI division (12 and under). Anyway, I had the privilege of being the very first act of the entire contest. If I do say so myself, it went great! I have to do the same routine as I did at the county fair and I had the same responses. The audience was eating it up and even the judges were laughing. One was laughing so hard she had to put her pen down to wipe her eyes. Anyway, I made the cut and I'm going to the Semi-finals next Friday. Same routine, hopefully the same results. I'll keep you posted. (BTW, the routine is posted in my profile.)

CELIA MUÑOZ HAS MADE MY DAY
My dear vent friends, something has occurred to me, and this has got to be one of the best days ever!!!! In Spain, my country, there aren't a lot of ventriloquists, so many many times it feels very lonely. That is one of the reasons why I joined this community, to feel less loneliness. And yesterday I was literally having a hard time with this. Because there's a very famous ventriloquist here in Spain. We got to be friends for some time, but then he became a very selfish person. At that time I felt that he was supposed to be my mentor, becuase before getting to meet him in person, I used to watch all his videos, and that's mainly how I learned the basics of ventriloquism. But it turned out he decided not to be my mentor. And I had to learn everything alone on my own without basically having any support here. But today THE MOST AMAZING THING HAS HAPPENED!! There is a very famous spanish ventriloquist, I'm sure most of you know who she is. Celia Muñoz, Spain's Got Talent winner and America's Got Talent finalist!! So yesterday I was basically crying because some days carrying the loneliness of vent in Spain, gets harder. And today, I've opened Instagram and the first thing I've seen is that she has texted me. She was literally telling me she is a huge fan of mine, that she admires what I do and that we should hang out from time to time and create more of a ventriloquist community here. I MEAN...IT'S SO CRAZY...I'VE BEEN FOLLOWING HER FOR MANY YEARS AND BEING A HUGE FAN...AND TODAY SHE HAS TOLD ME THAT SHE'S BEEN FOLLOWING ME AND MY VIDEOS FOR LIKE 3 YEARS AND SHE LOVES WHAT I DO...to me it's unbelievable and it definetely has cheered me up a lot, and I wanted to share it with you guys. I'm laughing, jumping, running, crying...I don't know what to do 🤣!! I'm uploading some her videos because she is amazing!! I saw her live a few months ago...she doesn't really perform in Spain a lot...it was her first performance in Spain in 5 years...and she made me cry...THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!

Her style reminds me of Clifford Guest. He used to do all kinds of polyphony.
X-Rated Vent??!!
Today I did my full Vent and Magic show for TSC in Olean, NY (TSC = Total Senior Care, a recreation program for seniors). The show went VERY well. Clients AND staff really enjoyed it. They said they can't wait for my return in October for a community event they booked me for. The only issue I had was one of the speakers on my PA system went on the fritz during the show. HOWEVER, I DID have a very interesting first. As I was setting up, an elderly lady playing Solitaire asked me what I was doing. I said I was setting up to perform. She asked (in all seriousness), "Are you going to take your clothes off?" (One of the staff said she's like that and was serious.) When I said no, she huffed and turned around. When the staff asked her to sit with the rest to watch the show she said, "If he's not going to take his clothes off then I'm not interested!", then she stormed off. I couldn't help but laugh. My full show is reminiscent of Vaudeville, but NEVER in all my days did the thought of mixing Vaudeville and Burlesque enter my mind! Anyway, that experience DEFINITELY woke me up...

I've been doing Gospel Vent my entire "career" as a vent (almost 50 years). I do some secular, but I picked up vent in Bible College and have been carrying on ever since. I've literally performed in 100's of churches over the years, up and down the east coast and as far west as Arizona. I used to be a home missionary with Rock of Ages Ministries and Child Evangelism Fellowship, which got me into a LOT of churches. Most of the routines on my YouTube channel are Gospel routines.
