One of our street therapy members got mistreated by the person she was staying with. She used all her food stamp money to fill the fridge and pantry. Then she went to the Dollar store. When she came back, all her things had been thrown outside and she was locked out, with the other person keeping all the food. Needless to say, suddenly being homeless, broke and with no food was distressing. We all pitched in to get her some food. One of the group, a working man offered to let her stay on his sofa. He works, has a girlfriend and is friendly and happy. She declined. Due to past experiences, she does not trust any man unless she is dating him, and then it's only maybe. Because of her past traumas, she chose to be homeless on the street rather than have a roof over her head. Last night was her 5th homeless night. This really shows the snowball effect of unhealed trauma . The person who offered her his sofa is as nice, harmless and trustworthy a fellow as they come.
