This summer interning with Danny, I learned so much on the court. But one of the most important things I learned wasn’t about basketball. He stressed to me the importance of investing in your knowledge and development. That advice stuck with me. I am studying abroad in Sydney right now, and have been looking for ways to get better as a coach while I’m out here. I followed Freddy Webb, founder of adapt basketball for a while and saw the value of his content and so I messaged him if there were any opportunities to get involved. He sent me a voice memo back on monday, and I booked the cheapest flight and hostel and arrived wednesday morning. This experience was great, learning about player development from a new perspective backed by science. Beyond that, I met another great mentor and being there in person makes the learning process becomes so accelerated. When learning on your own, there is so much information and no one there to answer your questions. Being on the court, observing, and asking questions and reflecting after taught me so much. Got to experience youth groups all the way up to working with professional NBL players. No matter what the career is, I’ve learned that being willing to seek out great mentors, investing in your knowledge even if it requires sacrifice, and staying consistent will put you ahead of most people in your space.

Our best summer yet!
A win we had this past week was finishing up our 4th off-season full-time. @Nate Dougherty and I started back in June of 2023 when we finished playing in College. Each summer, we've been blessed to work with hundreds of Professional players in the NBA, WNBA, Euroleague, Europe, and other pro leagues. Additionally, we've been building with some players for the past 4-7 years since they were in High School, that are now leaving for their college seasons. The goal of every summer is to improve our players with intentional work and prepare them for the upcoming season. This was our best summer yet, working with 50+ Pro, college, and high-level high school players. What was the best part of your summer?

Gamification. Beat the pro, shooting competitions in a certain time, makes in a row etc, all add an extra level of focus and pressure to each shot forcing players to “lock in”
Offseason Plans for your players when you aren’t around
What have you guys found to be the best way to structure plans for your players when you aren’t around? Most of my players have this month of August completely off before they prep to go back to school and start team workouts and want a structured plan for the next couple of the weeks so they’re ready to go when they get back. Any advice on where to start? Swot analysis? What will help them get on the floor? Feel Good Days (Confidence buliding) vs Challenge days (Struggle and Fail to improve)? Let me know!

Shooting Critique
I want to get thoughts on the way he sets his feet on this shot.

There are a couple of things that stand out. Instead of stuffing the ball into his shot pocket on with his right hand, he reaches across his body, and then has to readjust to get his hands in the middle of the ball. And then if u pause it when he is releasing, you almost can’t tell what hand he shoots with because both elbows are flared out. He never stabilizes his elbow. I’d say fix the pickup by having him bring the ball with his left to stuff in the shot pocket on the right with hand in middle of the ball and then use that energy to go straight up. To fix the elbow stabalization, you can have him practice going from 1 position(shot pocket) to 2 position (ball up with elbow stabalized before release) and then after that attach the body going up and snap and hold the follow through. And then emphasize everything being tight, It’s hard to force an elbow in and it can be uncomfy so my suggestion would have him start with form shots practicing stuffing into shot pocket with hands on seams, straight ball path up, and then as suggest keeping everything tighter. After that work on a balanced landing, and snapping that follow straight and holding it with pointer finger to the floor. It’s hard to fix everything in one day, so I’d give him one thing to focus on at a time, and then once it clicks, work towards the next thing.
