Day/Proverbs #4 & 5
Day/Proverbs #4
1. 👀 What stood out to you?
Whereas chapter 3 was saying that wisdom prevents bad things from happening to you, chapter 4 says wisdom will actively bring about good for you. Wisdom will #1 - "promote you," #2 - "bring you honor," #3 - "place on your head an ornament of grace," #4 deliver a "crown of glory" to you.
2. 💡 Did you learn anything new? (If yes, what?)
Nothing new.
3. 🎯 How can you apply this to your life?
"Do not forsake my law." Of course, we are not under the law today. But we know what God desires us to do. And I'd like to do so motivated by thankfulness and love for God.
Day/Proverbs #5
1. 👀 What stood out to you?
V22 "His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, and he is caught in the cords of his sin." We like to think when we suffer, it's because other people did bad things to us. Often in my life that I've suffered severely, I can trace it back to my own sin. Not always, but often.
2. 💡 Did you learn anything new? (If yes, what?)
Nothing new.
3. 🎯 How can you apply this to your life?
Chapters 5 & 6 are the famous Old Testament adultery warnings. It's odd reading these today when we have grace. So much of the Old Testament is focused on the law, and focused on "not sinning." Obviously, sin is bad. But it's interesting the OT approach compared to Paul's approach. Paul doesn't demand we focus on not sinning and keep our mind on the law. He says instead to focus on what's true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, etc. Today I'd like to focus on that rather than focusing on the law against doing bad things.
