Match #60 completes the main-bracket Quarterfinals with two fragrances from completely different worlds: Boss Bottled Absolu versus Giorgio Armani Acqua di Giò Profondo EDP. Boss Bottled Absolu is darkness. Spices, leather, patchouli, incense, myrrh, and woods create something rich, smoky, and complex. It's built for cold weather, evenings, and those occasions when you want your fragrance to have some presence. ADG Profondo is almost its mirror image. Fresh, clean, aquatic, aromatic, and citrusy, with marine notes, bergamot, rosemary, lavender, and that mineral quality running through the drydown. It's exactly the kind of fragrance I want when the temperature climbs. And both are extremely well done. So how do you choose between two fragrances designed to accomplish completely different things? There's almost no crossover here. One belongs with sweaters and jackets; the other practically demands sunshine and short sleeves. Maybe my decision is being influenced by the calendar. We're heading into autumn here in the U.S., even if the weather hasn't quite gotten the message yet. Or maybe it's simply that the Boss has one of those fascinating drydowns that keeps me smelling my wrist. Whatever the reason, by the narrowest of margins: Boss Bottled Absolu advances to the Semifinals. Acqua di Giò Profondo EDP drops into the second-chance bracket—and I'm very glad it isn't finished yet. That completes the Quarterfinals. Our main-bracket Semifinalists are set: Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême, Terre d'Hermès Eau Givrée, Tom Ford Ombré Leather, and Boss Bottled Absolu. Four fragrances. Four different personalities. And from here, the decisions are going to be brutal.

So… this was supposed to be a simple SOTD. Apparently, I had other plans. In my Mail Call post from last night, I went with my initial spray intro of Bellavita Luxury’s Fantasy For Him on my wrists—and let me tell you, that nozzle is IMPRESSIVE! I was already excited for today’s full wear. I woke up this morning at 6:30, and could still smell traces of Fantasy. Okay, Bellavita. You have my attention. After a shower and moisturizer, at 7:05 AM I went full-on wear: upper body pulse points, with a slight layering of Santal 33 on my forearms only. I wanted to give Fantasy center stage while adding just enough earthy woodiness underneath it. I left for work surprisingly pleasant, without my usual quietly simmering rage toward lane slicers who apparently believe turn signals were merely an optional suggestion in Driver’s Ed. My disdain for the non-use of turn signals is legendary. But I digress… Pulled into the lot, badged in to my building —and compliment number one immediately came from a facilities team member asking what I was wearing. I told him Fantasy For Him and gave him the TikTok link. He's on TikTok but had never really done a deep dive into their shop section on the app. Compliment number two came from someone in my lab who described what I had around me as a “fruity clean” scent. And understand something: corporate people can be terrified to compliment somebody’s clothes or fragrance. Unless they know you and work with you, they're quieter than a mouse in the Vatican. So I took notice. Compliments three and four arrived around noon—one walking to lunch and another while ordering my food. By this point I was well into the drydown, where that distinctive synthetic quality of Ambrostar became more noticeable. But it never became intolerable or distracting. The surrounding notes were still strong enough to keep Fantasy balanced, fragrant, and very much alive. Seven hours later as of this post, my demeanor is still pleasantly on the Light Side—it honestly takes a LOT to push me toward the Dark Side—and I was still enjoying how fragrant I was. The realization that I paid $10.45 for a blind buy that has me enjoying my aromatic presence is astounding. I walked around all day wearing a damn banger of an EDP from Bellavita... for $10.45!!!
